Drug and Substance Abuse in Manicaland Province Government has expressed deep concern over the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse, particularly among youths, as it continues to negatively affect families, communities, public health, national productivity, and security. The crisis has contributed to school dropouts, crime, mental health disorders, family breakdowns, and loss of economic potential among young people. In response, a comprehensive National Drug and Substance Abuse Response Plan is being implemented focusing on prevention, rehabilitation, law enforcement, harm reduction, and improved coordination among stakeholders. Awareness campaigns, school life-skills programmes, and community outreach initiatives are being intensified across Manicaland to educate and protect communities from substance abuse. Plans are underway to establish at least one rehabilitation centre in every district in Manicaland Province. The rehabilitation of the former Sakubva Psychiatric Centre into a drug rehabilitation facility has officially commenced, with support from Government, Mutare City Council, private rehabilitation centres, and other stakeholders. Law enforcement agencies have intensified operations against drug trafficking and abuse hotspots, leading to 265 arrests in the past month, the destruction of 44 drug bases, and the arrest of several suppliers. Hotspots identified include Sakubva, Penhalonga, Birchenough Bridge, Hauna, Murambinda, Chimbike, and Odzi. Government is also promoting counselling services, parenting groups, community-based support programmes, and anti-stigma initiatives to encourage affected individuals to seek treatment and support. Citizens, parents, community leaders, churches, development partners, and young people have been urged to work together in combating drug and substance abuse in order to build a healthy, productive, and drug-free society.

At the just-ended Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), I had the privilege of touring the Public Service Commission stand, where I observed its continued commitment to strengthening collaboration and partnerships with key stakeholders. The Commission is actively fostering engagement with clients, prospective employees, members of the Public Service, retirees, as well as both public and private institutions. This inclusive approach reflects a deliberate effort to enhance service delivery, promote transparency, and ensure that the Public Service remains responsive to the needs of the people. I commend this progressive engagement model, which is vital in building a professional, efficient, and citizen-centered Public Service that supports national development.

My Ministry launched a Fitness and Wellness Programme in Manicaland Province. The event attracted over 5,000 people! This huge turnout reflects the determination of the people of Manicaland to prioritise fitness and well-being. I would like to thank all the partners and participants who made the event a success.
