@JamieBraziel This. When I purchased my first house, I was approved for more than double what I spent. I didn't want to be "house poor." I also had two jobs at the time. Shortly after I picked up a third job and worked OT. I paid the house off in six years.

Proud Gen X here living in this economy with no debt and a paid off house and car. Guess how I did it? I learned from previous generations to buy what I actually needed and could afford and made short-term sacrifices for long-term freedom.

On this day 13 years ago, my only son was sworn in to the US Army. In ten days, it will be 12 years since he was killed in Afghanistan 2 weeks before he was due to come home. He was just 21. SISTER HEALTH UPDATE: They operated on my sister yesterday and discovered that the infection had not gone all the way down to the metal plates in her chest. That was good news! There's all manner of infections they encountered: MRSA and two or three others I can't pronounce. They think they're going to send her home in about two days - we're not sure yet. Please keep up your prayer as they're helping! ❤️🙏 The little girl in the middle is my sister Heather.

Many folks have asked, both friend and foe. Let me put a pin in my retiring from the Air Force seemingly early. Not that I owe this to anybody but just to be clear. No, I was never passed over. Nor was I forced to retire. I had a blessed career. I was promoted ahead of my peers to major, lieutenant colonel, and colonel. I turned down my promotion to colonel because of my family and our first child who was born prematurely and had health needs. It didn’t go over well with senior USAF leadership. Do I ever look back? Of course I do. I wouldn’t change a day of my 20 years. The positions and career I could’ve had if I’d stayed. But I chose my God and my life. I made the right decision. And why I still strive to serve…and will for the rest of my life. That is all. Carry on.
