@TomHCalver Core training from CT1 to consultant takes minimum 7 years for most specialties.

Finally: the idea that individual resident docs have experienced pay stagnation is daft. Resident docs have the best pay progression around. A trainee in 2017 on £27k base could be on £50k core training by 2021, then £110k consultant by 2025! Column: thetimes.com/article/895fa5…

Are resident doctors still underpaid? The BMA’s case for ongoing industrial action is undermined by how the union uses data. 1/6

I had patient in cardiac arrest who was receiving CPR and was mouthing "stop" only to have us stop and find he was asystolic but then wake up when we re-started compressions. Has anyone else encountered this? (We gave him sedation)

Update - L radicular leg pain & foot drop almost resolved Unfortunately symptoms evolved to become bilateral gluteal, pelvic & groin - 2 weeks ago When the pain got to 9-10/10 & I couldn't sleep / walk, I decided to forego watching the Hungarian Grand Prix & head to Urgent Care at PGH instead - raised CRP & neutrophilia MRI on Sunday at Fortius (amazing service) - raging bacterial disciitis & epidural abscess Don't tell anyone but it's affecting the psoas so I can't SLR 😆 So now in hospital awaiting PICC line and 2-3 months antibiotics 😕❎

Looking to find a new home for these (quite old) medical textbooks rather than throw them away. Giving them away for free (but you'll need to cover postage). Please message me if you're interested. Also happy to donate them somewhere (feel free to give suggestions)!

@SIDCJONES @waterman_harry @narindertweets Within my first two hours of being a doctor I’d diagnosed a patient with bowel obstruction, initiated initial management and liaised with surgeons with no support. I was covering close to 200 patients without direct support or input, including the acute stroke and cardiac units.

I fully support junior doctors striking, they work so hard, so many hours and need paying adequately for looking after US. Consultatants cover when they strike, no need for the scare mongering.

One thing as a doctor I will never understand is that because I prescribe im not allowed to give a medication or even get access to a drug room, due to safety. Yet anaesthetists exist? And we allow AHPs to prescribe?

@jabberwock951 @ponteepon This seems like such a red-flag for publications. “Choose your mates for peer-review so you can all definitely properly critically appraise each other and not just scratch each other’s backs 🤙👌🏻👍🏻” Of course it’s a medical education society endorsing this…

@ShaunLintern Hmmm... Longest continuous resident on-call when I was a junior (we didn't mind that title) doctor in the eighties? 96 hours, followed immediately by a normal day's work. Of course, people tire much more easily these days... 🙄 ❄️❄️ ❄️❄️❄️ ❄️❄️❄️❄️ ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

@joegavin92 @doctor_dru_ “Hi, I’m the med reg, can I refer…” “So you’ll need to talk to so&so to get the number to talk to this other person to find the form to fill in to get the other form you need to get the final boss to finally reply to you once they’re back from annual leave”

@Neuro_Matt I also find this frustrating but also think that in some situations the specialty review needs to be taken into consideration against the overall context of the patients best interests which are sometimes best understood by the team looking after them. I.e. geriatrics, ICM etc

One thing I will never understand in medicine, is the need to ask for a specialty reviews, then if it suggests something you don’t want to do, just ignoring it. Like if you feel you know better how to manage the patient…just do it? Rather than wasting everyone’s time.

1/ Time for another #POCUS pitfalls thread 🧵: the infamous IVC 🤩 I have MANY thoughts on the IVC 💭 When I first started teaching POCUS, I actually disliked the IVC because it was often poorly done or incorrectly interpreted ❌ I have now come to love the IVC, BUT you have to do it right! #tweetorial
