@Jowanza I tinkered with layers and the lambda extension API a while back. Seemed useful for configuration, dependency caching, or adding "sidecar"-like extensions (e.g. observability tooling)

@Jowanza I don't work directly with it much, but I think the general approach for the lambda stuff out teams work with is to try as much as possible to make migrations additive and non-breaking

For folks who use functions as a service for their backend APIs how do you go about running migrations on your relational DB? Read a few ideas of Google and Amazon blog and am not encouraged by what I read.

@norootcause In my limited experience (outside of the bay area), smaller to medium sized co's are more likely to be a little bit cultlike. Certainly not unique to tech workers, as you point out; any group of humans doing things together has the potential to be cultlike

@norootcause I mostly use both side mirrors, and not the rearview. In my old pickup truck the rearview didn't have much visibility, especially with anything in the bed of the truck

I swear, I was taught to use by my driving school to only use two mirrors. I remember the instructor drawing a diagram illustrating that the rear view covers the same area as the passenger-side mirror from the driver’s POV. I wonder if my teacher was full of it?

Drivers: do you use the passenger-side mirror while driving?

I’m interested in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Most online courses are focused on UI/UX and not other aspects of HCI. Not sure how big HCI twitter is but would love any recommended text books or maybe courses I can audit at a university. RT for exposure

@norootcause The class with "databases" in the title was an elective, but we did implement a subset of datalog in a required class on logic, so it was a kind of a db class too.
