@HannahEDaly The bus services in Cork are unreliable especially in the evenings. I would use public transport daily if the return journey from UCC (western road) was able to get me home on time. I don't need an extra incentive- the incentive is not sitting in a car daily.

@kv_ofarrell Fully agree but tranport is also heavily taxed, and a lot of people are -for now- locked into car use because of poor planning and infrastructure. Using a stick/parking charges is when people don’t have an alternative will be punitive and unpopular.

There is no such thing as free parking. If the driver doesn’t pay for it, someone else (probably the public) pays for it. But I wonder if it would be a far more popular measure to instead pay people who DON’T avail of free urban workplace parking. More carrot, less stick.
