While all eyes are focused on war and choke points, one of the most ambitious economic stories in the Middle East is unfolding as we speak… The Hejaz Railway, or the Middle East Corridor. Built by the Ottomans between 1900 and 1908 to link Istanbul and Medina, and repeatedly targeted and damaged during the Arab Revolt between 1916 and 1918, as portrayed in the iconic Lawrence of Arabia (1962), it was one of history’s great infrastructure projects in the Middle East. A century later, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Syria and Jordan are moving to revive it, with profound strategic, economic and logistical implications. Syria, Jordan and Turkey signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding in April to activate what they’re calling the Middle East Corridor, covering rail, road and maritime connectivity, with a three-year implementation roadmap. Saudi Arabia’s Transport Minister confirmed that feasibility studies for extending the network from the Kingdom’s border all the way to Türkiye, via Jordan and Syria, will be completed by end of year. The first phase targets the Turkey–Syria–Jordan backbone, then extends south linking Makkah and Medina to Istanbul. Think about what this means economically: → A land corridor connecting the Gulf to Europe, bypassing “traditional” chokepoints → Syria’s reintegration into regional trade after years of economic and political isolation → Jordan increasingly positioned as a logistics hub between the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant and Europe → Saudi Arabian ports potentially handling over 17 million containers annually (8,3 in 2025 and 7,5 in 2024) Most importantly, economic integration crafts the architecture of regional stability. Nations that buy from each other, ship through each other and invest in each other’s infrastructure don’t go to war with each other. Infrastructure is not just about moving goods. Le Cercle France-Liban a eu l’honneur de recevoir, dans un amphithéâtre comble, Adel Nassar, ministre libanais de la Justice, avocat et juriste, Lamia Moubayed, présidente de l’Institut des Finances Basil Fuleihan, ainsi que Karim Bitar, professeur à Sciences Po et à l’Université Saint-Joseph, pour une conférence intitulée « Le Liban, un État face à ses conflits et en quête de Justice », modérée par la journaliste Yara Rizk. Des échanges de grande qualité ont permis d’éclairer, avec exigence et lucidité, les défis institutionnels, politiques et judiciaires auxquels le Liban fait face aujourd’hui, dans un contexte marqué par des crises profondes et durables. 🇫🇷🎓🇱🇧 Ce vendredi 24 avril 2026, s’est déroulée à Paris et a l’initiative du Cercle France-Liban de l’Ecole Sciences-Po une conférence sur le thème « Le Liban, un État face à ses conflits et en quête de Justice » avec la participation du ministre libanais de la Justice Adel Nassar , de Mme Lamia Moubayed (Institut des Finances) et du professeur Karim Emile Bitar (initiateur de l’événement), sous la modération de Mlle Yara Rizk. L’assistance nourrie a démontré que l’intérêt pour le devenir du Liban est plus fort que jamais.

منذ سنة، كنت قد التقيت دولة الرئيس نواف سلام في باريس. لقاء حمل الكثير من الأمل في دولة لبنانية تنهض من جديد وتقوم على القانون، على المؤسسات وعلى قرار سيادي لا يُنتزع منها. اليوم، وبعد كل ما مرّ به لبنان، يبقى الرهان نفسه: أن نستعيد الدولة بكل ما للكلمة من معنى، وأن نُعيد القرار إلى مؤسساتها، وأن نحمي اللبنانيين بدولة قوية، لا بساحة إسناد مفتوحة لحروب الآخرين على أرضنا.

La guerre n'est qu'une plaie béante au cœur de la nation, Elle brise l’homme aussi facilement qu'elle brise la pierre, Elle vole l'âme de la terre et les rêves des gens. Grateful to @MEAAIRLIBAN and the crew of Flight ME423. We left Riyadh at 11:00 PM on March 1st and landed in Beirut around 2:00 AM local time, as bombs were falling and families were fleeing the southern suburbs of the city. At one point, it seemed we might divert to Cyprus. During the flight, strikes, rockets and drone attacks were reported across the region, with Cyprus, Beirut and Haifa all under fire, yet the crew remained calm and professional throughout. Landing in Beirut under such circumstances is something none of us will forget. Respect and gratitude to the pilots and cabin crew who carried out their mission with courage and composure, bringing passengers home safely despite an extremely tense situation. Thank you for your commitment. We pray that the days to come will bring safety and peace to all those living through these difficult times. #MEA #MiddleEastAirlines #Beirut
