Charlton Athletic have cut ties with a prominent sponsor after he appeared to endorse Tommy Robinson on his social media profile. Darren New is a life-long Charlton fan whose companies have sponsored the club in various ways as well as Charlton Athletic Community Trust events. Charlton officials had spoken of him last year as “part of the Charlton family”. This week, New had posted on his X account statements that appeared sympathetic to far-right agitator known as Tommy Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. On Sunday, New re-posted a video of Robinson claiming the current violence was not his fault but the fault of the UK’s immigration policies and two-tier policing adding, “Not one thing that he says here is controversial or incorrect”. The following day, he reposted a Robinson video interview with Alex Jones in which Robinson claimed the riots were provoked and orchestrated by the police and UK government adding, “The truth below and if you can’t see this you need to register for a guide dog”. Nathan Jones to BBC London last night: "We were keeping Derby at arm's length but I don't want to keep Derby at arm's length - I want to knock Derby clean out. We believe with the club that we are that we're going to be better than these teams - not keeping them at arm's length. "First half we were nowhere near to doing what we wanted to do to Derby. Second half was all about us. We conceded but showed the character to come back." #cafc
