Rev. Fr. George Dogo, Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Parish, has warned of what he calls a genocide against Christian communities in southern Taraba State following repeated attacks by Fulani militants.
“When you come to my place and you attack me unprovoked, then you send me out and you occupy the place and you stay there and you don't allow me to come back for years. Is that a clash? No, that is not a clash,” Fr. Dogo said.
He revealed that Madu village was attacked overnight, leaving three people dead and homes ransacked. He added that his area, including Ton and surrounding communities, has been under siege for approximately two months, with around 32–33 people killed locally, crops destroyed, and residents displaced.
Fr. Dogo provided displacement figures, reporting that approximately 26,171 people have fled Holy Family Parish, over 500 from St. Philip Catholic Parish, and 5,920 from Holy Spirit Parish, estimating that more than 300,000 Christians have been displaced across the region.
He described a worsening humanitarian crisis: families with no food, no houses, no water, and limited medical care, with some victims “macheted” and unable to reach hospitals.
“What I want the world to know is that there is genocide taking place right in this southern Taraba which is the geographical or the jurisdiction of Okari Dasis,” he said.
The priest called for urgent government action, immediate peace, and the safe return of displaced families, while expressing doubt about local authorities’ willingness to intervene.
Tensions have risen after attacks on churches, including the arson of St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Wukari, where Fr. James Oliver rescued the Blessed Sacrament from the flames.

Meditation
Lord, today You correct my understanding of sacrifice. Fasting is not only about food but about love. I can deny myself meals yet still feed pride, anger, or indifference. The fast You desire reaches the heart and touches the neighbour. It loosens injustice, softens harshness, and awakens generosity. Lent is not a display of discipline but a conversion of love. When I fast, I learn that I am not sustained by bread alone but by Your grace. When I give, I reflect Your mercy. When I restrain myself, space is created for charity. Teach me to fast from selfishness, from quick judgments, from neglect of the poor and the lonely. Let my penance become compassion.

Telling women the biological reality of their own bodies isn't misogyny. It's the opposite. It's love. It's the kind of love our mothers and grandmothers used to give before we decided feelings mattered more than facts and self, status, money, and power mattered more than nurturing others.
We owe the next generation better. We owe them the truth that career is wonderful but it will never love you back. That status is fleeting but loving your children is eternal. That the most significant thing most of us will ever do isn't closing a deal or becoming famous—it's raising human beings who know they are loved.

Yes please. You can drink water while fasting. Water does not break the fast. As a matter of fact, water is necessary for health and proper functioning of the body. Fasting is not meant to harm our health.
You may also drink necessary liquids if required, especially for health, medication, or survival (dehydration), while still keeping the spirit of fasting.
And even when it comes to food, fasting does 'not always' mean going hungry throughout the day. It can mean reducing the portion of food intake or skipping one full meal.
In another comment, someone asked me if we can receive Holy Communion while fasting. Yes please. Holy Communion is the Body of Christ. I feel that it is even during fasting that we need the Body of Christ more, for spiritual sustenance and strenght. The goal of fasting is spiritual growth, not physical damage.
The Church is a wise mother. She encourages sacrifice, but not at the detriment of our physical and spiritual health. What matters most is the spirit of fasting. As the prophet Joel said, "true fasting includes conversion of heart - turning away from sin and turning toward God" (cf. Joel 2:12–13).
