Still have so much to learn about Chicago after a little more than a year here. One thing I can say I now know, though, is that when the Trib wins a Pulitzer, we head to the Billy Goat. 🍺🐐

We won the Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting @chicagotribune! Our entire newsroom covered Midway Blitz with everything we had. I’ve never been prouder of the Tribune or its commitment to the truth. It’s an honor to be part of this team.

64 days in Chicago: The story of Operation Midway Blitz. Our team fanned out to cover the before, during and after of the federal government’s months-long raid on an American city. This is worth your time to understand the United States today chicagotribune.com/2025/12/28/chi…

With student A.I. use/abuse now ubiquitous, professors and teachers are killing off take-home essays and papers. Students are writing inside the classroom, often by hand. It's part of the big rethink happening on tech and learning. My new report here: nytimes.com/2026/04/30/us/…

A quarterly financial report shows CPS projecting that it will again end the current fiscal year on June 30 in a hole, albeit a smaller one, of $45 million. CPS says it is making up some ground by spending less grant money. chicago.suntimes.com/education/2026…

NEW: How does Chicago schools chief Macquline King's new contract compare to that of her predecessor (other than the higher salary)? It allows the school board to dismiss her much faster. It also nods to importance of CPS's relationship with the mayor. chalkbeat.org/chicago/2026/0…

Mayor goes on to say that all of the city's sister agencies (that includes parks, libraries, and schools) "have to work together to ensure the plan that is carried out on May 1, that parents have advanced notice, city of Chicago has notice..."
Paris Schutz@paschutz

"May 1st is happening," mayor Johnson says in response to question on whether he agrees with CPS CEO Macquline King who has said school will be in session. She went against the appointed school board members that voted for a day off for civic action. He seemed to indicate schools would indeed be out, but was unclear.

NEW: I wrote about Gov. JB Pritzker’s ambitious, abundance-coded housing plan. 4 units on basically any standard size Chicago residential lot? ADUs? Looser parking minimums? potentially yes, in our backyard >> chicagotribune.com/2026/04/12/jb-…
