His attorney, Abbe Lowell, calls this an “unprecedented attack on the First Amendment.” Don maintains he was there solely as a journalist covering the protest. The chief federal judge in Minneapolis already rejected these charges for lack of probable cause. Now the Trump Justice Department has obtained a grand jury indictment and arrested him anyway. This is the question: Is covering a protest the same as participating in it? The First Amendment exists to protect journalists like Don who hold power accountable. We stand with him.
