Great. Finally. Many see @dfinity as an #Ethereum competitor (aka "Ethereum killer"). The overlap is smaller than it appears. Dfinity is more like a decentralized cloud with strong blockchain characteristics, whereas Ethereum is a strong blockchain, with cloud characteristics.

Unpopular/popular opinions: - Ethereum will ride massively on the "it's an environmental crypto that doesn't waste as much electricity as a country the size of Ireland"-meme. True or not, no amount of education is going to stop this, regardless of how ETH2 really progresses.

"Hey, you! Start selling a $10 bill for $9.50 and every time you do it, give me 50 cents of the sale." "Wut, why?" "For each sale, I give you equity in my company - look it's worth $1.10" --- "Hey, you! - wanna buy some equity in my company? Look how much we are earning!" 🍣🍣🍣

@sillytuna What did you find interesting in the project to get involved in the first place? I'm genuinely curious, feel like I must be missing something.

The moment I saw Sushi, I realized it was a novel mechanism with a lot of potential However his behavior is abhorrent and should not be condoned Looking forward to seeing DeFi move on

@dominic_w So would 28x also be a good estimate for cost of computation vs legacy cloud provider?

@keymastercapit1 Currently, at launch/Mercury only default 28 DC subnets will be available. Later, canisters (smart contracts) can target diff subnet types e.g. formed from privacy-preserving tamperproof hardware, or using less replication to reduce storage costs, but w/o ability hold tokens, etc

The Internet Computer is an evolution of Satoshi's vision. Data centers (DCs) are rewarded *per* standardized hardware node run w/o deviation. Work done is useful, and opposite a hardware race: demands common behavior Striping across independent DCs guarantees decentralization

@dominic_w How is the replica size of a subnet decided? Can the user decide they want more or less replication?

@keymastercapit1 In a 28 DC (node) subnet, would require 10+ of those independent DCs to collude to censor transactions. If such an event happens, when NNS detects the behavior, those DCs would have all their nodes knocked off the IC network. Above not possible on "private" subnets as black box.

@dominic_w If one or many DC blacklists an address or otherwise try to censor transactions, how is truth derived among the DCs in one subnet?

@keymastercapit1 At public launch we're looking at about 30 independent DCs, which is enough to create subnet chains. In 5 years, plan is thousands DCs, and millions of nodes. There are already hundreds of nodes running around world, and more being shipped as we speak. Ramp up is under way....
