@kidrorororo You always had to pay monthly, that’s how a live service works. Without the sub, devs will stop putting money back into it and abandon it over time

@kidrorororo subscription based mmos are somewhere between 20 and 35% of the gaming market if you exclude mobile (because mobile is its own beast).
We're not looking at a few hundred thousand players. we're looking at tens of millions - calling the subscription model and mmos dead? nope

What they don't wanna tell you is that the subscription model is infinitely preferable to the free to play model (and allows for more Stuff™️ most of the time compared to just buy to play)

When I was really young I used to want to play MMOs cuz the idea of me and my friends in a fantasy world sounded cool but now it’s a dead genre and you have to pay monthly, actually brain dead genre I’m surprised it had such a big impact
