Sikh empire used persian instead of gurmukhi poonjabi for all official purposes, sikhs in east punjab used urdu until '47 without ado afaik
the punjabi suba mvmt achieved its goal of officialising gurmukhi panjabi in '66 in response to arya samaj's attempted hindi imposition

@sifarchand Very true. Sikhs didn't want Gurumukhi for a religious reason. They were seeking entry into some imaginary order only shitheads who teach 'History' are obliged to babble about.

My most anti-woke opinion is that Hindustani (Hindi-Urdu) is a perfectly good candidate for India's national language. The issue is with the central govt's assimilationist agenda.

@amstro00 It's not about pride. Languages diversify naturally. Even English has diversified into different languages and dialects just in 300 years. Your assumption that one language is inevitable is wrong and not supported by history.

@laalkanval Yep, idea is terrible as everyone has their pride. but as we find more faster ways to travel and connect. Single language becoming dominant is going to be inevitable.

@AGhoshD786 Ultimately a 2 language policy with English + local language works intuitively too, but in either scenario, local languages should be prioritized completely over whatever link-language is chosen.

@AGhoshD786 To be clear, I'm not for the imposition of Hindi. I just meant that out of all native languages spoken in the Indian subcontinent it's a good choice given it's historical reach

@laalkanval Let's keep only English. All other languages can die. And i mean it for all local languages also. Having single language solves lots of issues. poor person in one corner can learn from top professor at other without langauge barrier, easy transfer of knowledge around world.

@laalkanval @MuseOfZanka no arabic words can stay, just not if they werent in farsi alr imo, and we must keep things like bilkul fawran, etc. I also would appreciate keeping the farsi prefixes and suffixes (hence borrowed arabic ones in them) we have active like -dar -baazi -iyat etc

@laalkanval @MuseOfZanka mm this is somewhat acceptable, i would prefer a prakrit word where possible, compile a list of farsi words common by analysing poetry, prose, film, etc. purge any direct arabic loan (few tbh), and then bring back borrowing from braj over directly through sanskrit

Serious answer, a more Punjabi-esque standard for Hindi + recognition and institutionalization of Northern regional langs + Urdu within the Hindi fold is my ideal scenario.
