If I had 1,000 lives to live, I would spend one in Almaty, One of the many hidden gems of Central Asia. Insane mountains just right near even the city limits. Tons of cultures beyond just Kazakh within the city limits, like Korean, Uygher, Russians, even Chinese. An insane food culture and a lot of cafes. I would just be a humble but slightly life loving degenerate businessmen if I lived here, so not really different from my existing path, just a Central Asian twist.

A fire in a South Korean government building destroyed saved files from 125,000 civil servants. There are no back ups and files permanently lost. In 2017, the government created its own cloud system (“G-Drive” aka “Governmet Drive”) and allotted 30 gigabytes to each civil employee. The custom cloud was meant to ensure data sovereignty and maximize security. “G-Drive” ballooned to 858 terabytes and the government IT opted to not back it up. About 17% of the country’s 750,000 civil servants currently use “G-Drive” and some departments were hit harder by the fire, which engulfed the 5th floor of the National Information Resources Service building in late September. One of the most-affected departments was Ministry of Personnel Management (one employee noted “It’s daunting as eight years’ worth of work materials have completely disappeared.”) Pretty wild.
