Super cool paper by @GeorgiouKat et al! Top lines: - Mineral type matters for understanding SOC saturation! - Ag soils are way below SOC saturation capacity (<50%) - Grazing lands (!!) are particularly undersaturated & are good SOC restoration targets nature.com/articles/s4146…

Sequestration efficacy is highest on croplands bc they're in a greater SOC deficit, but this paper reiterates importance of sequestration efforts on grass/rangelands bc 1) they're still far from saturation, & 2) they cover SO much land. We won't reach climate goals without them.

Finally, I think this paper puts to bed the classic argument that SOC sequestration isn't a worthwhile climate change mitigation strategy because of saturation. Most soils aren't even at 1/2 capacity according to this new analysis. Lots of room and opportunity to improve SOC!

Dialed In Precision Ag doing some #SWAT mapping in PEI before soil sampling and prepping for the 2022 potato crop. Now is a good time to start thinking about next year! #variablerate #precisionag

This week #PrincetheTractor & his #aglivinglab potato friends are singin’ in the rain DYK 🥔🥔🥔 require 1 inch of water each week Though #PEI farmers still rely on 🌧️to provide most of the crop water requirements, supplemental irrigation is used for a few weeks during droughts

@ryansnoddon You bet Ryan, we've moved the majority of our #Forage production over to silage. Mow day-1, bale day-2, wrap wet. Allows us to manage our harvest risk much more effectively

It's really too bad @seguincbc that the NB Climate Change secretariat hearings last week were dominated by talks of #Glyphosate bans and not actual climate change mitigation to support the next generation. Let's start talking about strategic forest management practices instead
