@HughGriffin2 Yes it was a “success”. It lifted off the pad and delivered a payload into space and then became floating debris. Basically, what every other rocket over the past 60+ years has done.

@NewsFromGoogle @FearedBuck More than a small minority of us would prefer to have our own choice as to how we have search results displayed. Imposing this with no opt-out will end up going down as well as "the new taste of Coke" did in the 1980s.

1/ You will absolutely continue to see blue web links in search results, and our AI features include prominent links to the web directly within responses. AI Mode is not the default experience in Search. Our new search box helps you describe exactly what you’re looking for, but using it does not mean that you will only get AI features — you'll continue to get a range of results on Search.

Google Search is officially over. Google is now shifting away from traditional search results and moving deeper into AI-generated answers, assistants, and automated browsing experiences.

@HedgieMarkets The bet is against a negative public backlash and the early reactions don't bode well. Google would not be the first corporate giant to try to roll out a product "improvement" only to be forced to walk it back. One good example is "the new taste of Coke".

🦔Google announced at I/O that Search is being restructured into AI-powered interactive experiences rather than the traditional list of links. The company is rolling out "information agents" that track the web for users, mini-apps personalized to individual needs, and Gemini summaries that replace clicking through to source websites. Chrome is also pushing a 4GB Gemini Nano model onto user devices without explicit consent. My Take Google is restructuring the product that generates roughly 60% of its revenue, and the change directly removes the click-through behavior that monetizes the entire system. When users get an AI summary instead of clicking a website, the websites lose traffic, the ads lose impressions, and Google loses the click-revenue model it built over 25 years. The bet is that engagement from agentic experiences will eventually generate more value than the ad clicks it cannibalizes, which is an enormous gamble for a company whose ad business funds everything else. The bigger issue is the data pipeline. The websites Google summarizes are the same websites Google needs to keep indexing for its AI to have anything to summarize. Once publishers realize their traffic has dropped 50% because Gemini is answering questions directly from their content, the rational response is to block Google's crawlers, which breaks the supply chain that makes the AI useful in the first place. Google is racing Perplexity and ChatGPT into a model where AI answers replace web search, but the internet that makes any of it possible runs on a business model the AI is actively destroying. Hedgie🤗

I regret to inform the community that all that the source code for Vector has been leaked. This has been tough on the team, most likely, it's being auctioned on the dark web. 🧵 Whoever purchases it will regret it for the reasons in this thread.

1/ We are sharing additional details regarding our investigation into unauthorized access to GitHub's internal repositories. Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension. We removed the malicious extension version, isolated the endpoint, and began incident response immediately.

@tech_finds_ @CultureCrave @WSJ The first thing that will stop is the r subsidy being poured into inference. Once that stops and pricing adjusts to reflect what it really costs them, the myth of cheap AI goes up in smoke.

@CultureCrave @WSJ the timing is interesting. going public means quarterly pressure to show stable growth. that's a different incentive than shipping fast. worth watching what gets deprioritized once that pressure kicks in

@coreyward @temhandev @OpenAI @rennyzucker Ultimately, any of these countermeasures are, at best, temporary and the increasing velocity of the development of work-arounds makes any attempt to implement them a "whack-a-mole" approach.

We’re adding new ways for people to identify AI-generated images and understand where they came from. In addition to C2PA Content Credentials, images now also contain a SynthID watermark, and can be identified using a public verification tool to check whether an image was made by OpenAI products. openai.com/index/advancin…

@temhandev @OpenAI @rennyzucker No, but layered changes like performing a resize, encoding, adding a filter and adding compression (not just one of these, but all of them together) will degrade SynthID to the point where it isn’t reliable. The work of a minute or two. Your point stands.

Fair enough, I got the mechanism wrong: a screenshot doesn't strip SynthID, I was conflating it with C2PA metadata. SynthID survives casual edits by design. Where it does break is a determined adversary: @rennyzucker is right that heavy downscaling distorts it, and regeneration or removal attacks defeat it. It also only flags participating generators.
