I truly enjoyed my (virtual) visit to @madpl1 (U Wisconsin) last month [1] and in particular, the ensuing discussions after the talk. And of course, @lorisdanto is an amazing host, even virtually; I wonder how much fun a physical visit would be! [1]madpl.cs.wisc.edu/pl-seminar/202…

@TaliaRinger @mkulkarni @purdue_pl Not only free, when it was in Madison we raised funds and provided scholarships for most students to attend (especially those who couldn't have otherwise)

What regional PL meetups exist? I know we had PNW PLSE in Seattle and it was wonderful. Wondering if there's a New England PL meetup or a Mid-Atlantic PL meetup or anything like that.

Prospective graduate students. Free advice. If you have the choice, DO NOT STAY at your undergraduate institution for graduate school. Diversity of ideas and opinions is important. Being a bit uncomfortable is good. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

As if 2020 couldn't get any worse, my advisor Ed Clarke passed away yesterday. He won the 2007 Turing Award for this work (amturing.acm.org/award_winners/…). Really sad and heartbroken really. 😪
