One of the most challenging things for this project was texturing it in a way that can fool the viewer into thinking it's real, it took many many attempts and many variations of the textures to reach this final one. Textured in Substance Painter.

Short answer (likely): SSDM and Parallax Occlusion Mapping solve a similar problem (fake depth), but in very different ways ☑️POM (Parallax Occlusion Mapping) works in object/texture space. It ray-marches inside a height map and offsets UVs. → Good for surfaces, relatively stable, but can’t produce true silhouettes. ☑️SSDM (Screen Space Displacement Mapping) works in screen space (post-process). It uses the already rendered image/depth to push pixels around. → Can affect object edges and surroundings, but is view-dependent and can break at screen borders.
