Ahh it becomes more clear. Someone in Reform has data that the number of people that work overtime in Makerfield is high and this is rushed out garbage to try buy some votes. Now it makes sense.

700 illegal immigrants crossed the channel on Friday and Saturday, with more flooding in on Sunday. Shabana Mahmood and Labour have no border control. They are more interested in their leadership squabbles than keeping out illegal immigrants. We face a tidal wave of illegal immigrants this summer as a result. Labour has returned only 7% of small boat illegal immigrants because they refuse to leave the ECHR. With 93% allowed to stay, no wonder they keep coming. We must ban asylum claims by illegal immigrants, leave the ECHR and stop the courts intervening to allow illegal immigrants to stay. This will enable small boat illegal immigrants to all be deported within a week of arrival - back to their country of origin if possible or a safe third country if not. Then the crossings will soon stop. But Labour is too weak to do this.

As a tax lawyer, let me tell you that this is a mad policy. Deeply unfair between taxpayers with no common sense basis. Pure bribery. Why should you pay less tax than your neighbour who's hours are contracted but you do regular 'overtime' ? Ridiculous.

This post illustrates two problems with the framing of Reform's overtime tax proposal... 👇 1⃣ UK emergency workers are already paid more for overtime (typically 1.3-1.5x, sometimes 2x); no-one begrudges them that, but the point is that overtime working is already rewarded at a higher rate 2⃣ this is not a left vs. right issue; there is not much support for Reform's plan from "free market" economists either (myself included)
