@NextRoundLive @joelklatt The issue is comparing football to basketball. Basketball is more conducive to Cinderella upsets/runs. Football is not. Even if JMU were to do the unthinkable, statistically there is zero chance to win 4 in a row against top 10 teams.

@MHver3 Expecting first class treatment & exceptions for football based on name brands that are decades old doesn’t calculate. Maybe they should be the ones that go the private equity route. Since when has greed been a virtue?

Yormark feels that adding Notre Dame as a partial member is a poison pill for any Conference despite heavy support internally from the big 12 athletic directors to pursue that as an option. BY completely sabotaged that effort last night with his statements. Crazy stuff.

@BarstoolIrish Look up game theory. ACC decided that an SEC team was not as vulnerable as independent Notre Dame. If the attacked multiple teams, it wouldn’t be as effective. The strategy worked perfectly. And why would they protect you when there is no incentive?

It’s not the fact that the ACC lobbied for Miami. That makes complete sense. The frustration comes from the ACC only pinning Miami against Notre Dame when they could have done it against Alabama as well. The Network could have easily shown Alabama-FSU once and they chose not to.

@MichaelGus57 @BarstoolIrish They didn’t have to drop out, they just didn’t move at all. There’s never been a team who lost their conference championship game and not moved down.

@BarstoolIrish Because everyone knew it would come down to ND and Miami? They were never ever going to drop Bama out for losing in a ccg game after they won in Athens earlier. That was always a cope ND fans landed on when it became apparent h2h was going to matter.

@PDawg206 @ghosted_machine Trying to guess what this committee was going to do by using logic doesn’t work but if Miami lost to Pitt and Duke still won the ACC championship I think they would’ve just forced Duke into the playoffs over JMU by saying they had tougher schedule..

@ghosted_machine It wasn't an unwritten autobid (in general ... entering the weekend, sure) b/c if Pitt had beaten Miami, Miami is not in. There was still a basic standard of performance they had to meet. Either produce a respectable champ (fail) or a respectable at-large candidate (success).

A(n alleged) Pop-Tarts Bowl official called into “Mad Dog” the other day and casually mentioned that during their Saturday call, Jim Phillips hinted they’d get ND if Duke won — Phillips wouldn’t confirm it, but allegedly gave a knowing smile. I’ll point out that this is unconfirmed. But if Phillips did indeed hint, before the @ACCFootball championship game had even kicked off, that ND would be in their Pop-Tarts Bowl if Duke were to win, with a wink and a nod, then it would imply that the ACC has an unwritten autobid to the CFP. Note, the bowl rep focusing on Orlando’s ~$70M hit rather than the ACC subplot signals the Phillips detail slipped out as context rather than a targeted allegation, which makes it more believable — the kind of offhand detail that tends to be real. If this actually happened, it lines up too cleanly with the ACC’s whole posture that weekend. Phillips had every incentive to signal one thing privately to keep partners calm while publicly laundering the Miami/ND H2H as the talking-point shield. And the pre-kickoff timing is damning because it implies the league office already knew which storyline they were going to push regardless of outcome. #cartels @Brady_Quinn @JohnDBrice1 @NDFootballPR

This private equity deal was just ratified by the Utah Board of Trustees by unanimous vote. Approximately $500 million infusion of cash for the creation of an outside, for-profit entity that would take over many business operations of the Utah athletic department. Stated goal is to modernize commercial activity and maximize the revenue for Utah athletics -- "go from surviving to thriving."
Ross Dellenger@RossDellenger

In a groundbreaking endeavor, the University of Utah athletics is entering into what could be a $500M+ equity partnership with Otro Capital featuring the creation and shared ownership of a for-profit entity to operate athletics, sources tell @YahooSports. bit.ly/44hUcZJ

@DanWetzel Anyone who has watched CFB for more than 3 years knows this was not how CFB polling has ever worked. Vegas odds were at 96% until exactly 12pm because the public used historical CFB logic as to what should happen. Just stop with the weird lecturing.

Notre Dame was capable of winning the national title. I get the disappointment of the players, fans, etc. That said, school administrators should not have been shocked. Anything can happen (and has) in the final poll. Foreseeing that is part of the job.

@Lemon_dog43 @DanWetzel Now see I can live with your rational, logical line of thinking. I’d be bummed but my brain understands it. It’s difficult to accept illogical, inconsistent rationale for what the committee just did though. It’s mind boggling and borderline sketchy.

@soaboutthatstat @bmarcello If you watch the interviews, his answers sound like what I would expect from a casual fan who is learning the game of football. Plus, his own athletic department he is actively running gets a six digit payout for Bama being in there. Conflict of interest?

@bmarcello People understand that the chairman doesn’t have any extra power over the rest of the committee right? The chairman only gets the “privilege” of having to explain the committee’s results even if they’re results they don’t agree with…

Anyone still believe what Hunter Yurachek said about there being no angle to get more SEC and/or ACC team(s) in the playoff? SEC deal worth ~$300 Million Annually ACC deal worth ~$155 Million Annually Hunter lied live and in 4K.

@RealABob @mc82_j @ralphDrussoATH The villain is Hunter Yurachek. Conflict of interest for his athletic department to make money. The way it was done and then being lied to about why it was done as if it was completely natural when it was anything but natural based on every precedent set in CFB polling.

Two things can both be wrong. ND wasn’t robbed. The process was really crappy but there were very legit reasons for leaving ND out. Also, opting out of a bowl because your hopes were crushed is fine.

Yes many in the media have made many positive comments how ND was given a raw deal -Please Understand that those who attack ND Are so JEALOUS that as an independent they don’t have to share their dollars they receive-also that they have a national network NBC paying them millions to televise their home games nationally. No other school has that POWER & FOLLOWING to able to do that . All those that criticize are flat out JEALOUS as Coach Holtz would say of the Lady on the Dome!WITHOUT a doubt the all time GREATEST NAME IN COLLEGE! FOOTBALL & that is not an opinion but a FACT!

I'm torn on Notre Dame opting out of the bowl. On the one hand, if you want to blow up the system, sometimes you gotta pull the pin yourself. Notre Dame just did that. On the other, how does skipping 15 bowl practices help Notre Dame make next season a title contending one?

@Roback13 @PeteSampson_ @ScottStras Your beef is with what modern CFB has become and Gen Z in general but in this specific instance it’s about ESPN and proving a point that they don’t own us after they and the ACC maligned us on national programs for the last month for their own profit.

So folks at @espn are upset ND isn’t playing in a bowl game after weeks of folks politicking against the lack of conference affiliation, using them as a pawn for their CFB playoff selection show, having the ACC network play the UM/ND game on repeat for 48 hours during Conf Champ week BUT now it’s a bad look they don’t want to serve ESPN’s best interest by playing in an exhibition bowl game? Got it.
