@qiansjiaer Especially since by the time they’re outed his dad is dead, and he and Shane are in a serious enough relationship that he doesn’t need to ever go back to Russia if he doesn’t want to.

@qiansjiaer In danger- he could get partner sponsorship through Shane. Him being out and in a same sex relationship and it being illegal in Russia is kind of only a problem for him if he’s in Russia. His passport wouldn’t be revoked.

something the book COMPLETELY ignores is how much trouble ilya would actually be in when they got outed. he still holds a russian passport and being gay is a CRIME. he would likely have to apply for asylum and do a bunch of other legal stuff. he would be in a HUGE MESS
