A new Tom Clancy adaptation updated for the present day would feel odd. Clancy was a master at portraying the US civilian bureaucracy and military as slick, well-oiled machines, and back in the day that approach wasn't so implausible that you could dismiss it as outright propaganda. Desert Storm could have been written by Clancy. But we're no longer in a Clancy world; now incompetence and chaos are the order of the day.
