@petervlahos64 @aliyetgin2023 You killed every single muslim (and jew) in Morea. Everyone. It was a total ethnic cleansing. It happened in every single city the same way: Siege cities with Turkish majority, ask them to surrender, offer free passage and when they surrender KILL EVERYONE. We won’t forget!!

How foolish are some in Turkey 🇹🇷 😡😡👇 Here’s a sharp, historically grounded response that pushes back without excusing atrocities: Reducing the Greek War of Independence to a single atrocity is not history—it’s propaganda. Yes, massacres of Muslims in Morea were real and horrific. But so were decades of Ottoman repression, massacres of Greeks, and a brutal imperial system that sparked the revolt in the first place. History isn’t clean, and nationalist cherry-picking only fuels more division. If you’re going to talk about violence, tell the whole story—not just the part that fits your narrative. Learn from history its lessons ‼️Do not use it in to justify your misguided beliefs or your version of history and to justify your provocations and threats in the present😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡‼️ #HistoryMatters #ContextCounts #GreekWarOfIndependence #OttomanEmpire #StopPropaganda

Very good call with President @RTErdogan. Türkiye is a key partner in a region in turmoil. Our interests converge; keeping trade routes open, energy flowing and supply chains stable. We will continue working closely together on these priorities. The EU appreciates Türkiye’s efforts to support de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution to the Iran conflict. We also discussed the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus question. We underlined the importance of EU-Türkiye relations. The EU is ready to support the UN-led process at all stages.

Even if EEZ effect is debated, territorial waters are not. International courts may reduce or even deny EEZ/continental shelf effect to some islands in delimitation cases. But they still recognize their full territorial sea, up to 12 NM, without exception. That is why, once Greek islands are given 12 NM territorial waters, the remaining area available for EEZ/continental shelf delimitation in the Aegean is essentially the limited high-seas space shown here. Turkish diplomacy knows this. That is why Ankara threatens war over any Greek extension beyond 6 NM. And that is also why it invents “grey zones”: to project zones of sovereignty where it has no sovereignty. #MaviVatan #EgeDenizi #DenizYetkiAlanları #KıyıUzunluğu #adalaridenizi #ege #egehenizi #aegeansea #aegeanislands

Let's stop these foolish arguments. What does Turkey say? 'I have a 2805 km coastline in the Aegean. I am a country of 90 million people. Greece cannot close off the entire Aegean Sea by using the islands as an excuse. The islands do not have Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

One of the issues that Türkiye most strongly objects to is the militarization of the Aegean islands bordering Türkiye. For example, it is estimated that the number of active Greek soldiers stationed on Samos, one of the closest points to the Turkish coast, is approximately 5,500.

@petervlahos64 @ictinus_x Lausanne resolved the question about sovereignty of island listed on it specifically. With understanding of 3nm waters back then. The question about 12nm territorial waters and EEZ was not addressed there. The upcoming war will be about those fundamental questions.

🔴Turkey’s aggression in the Aegean is the aggression of insecurity. Even the Turkish word for Greece -Yunanistan -traces back to Ionia, the ancient Greek civilization of western Anatolia. The name itself carries an uncomfortable historical truth: that “Greece,” as a civilizational concept, is inseparable from lands Turkey now occupies. The persistence of Greek history across Anatolia betrays an anxiety Turkey has never fully resolved. They rename, erase, and appropriate because the Greek names are reminders they cannot silence. The aggression in the Aegean, the maximalist claims, the war threats - none of this reads as the confidence of a people secure in their belonging. It reads as the opposite: a state that has never fully convinced itself that these lands are its own, and compensates by demanding, loudly and constantly, so that everyone else agrees. The Aegean aggression isn’t strength. It’s panic.

Yunan basınında “Mavi Vatan” alarmı büyüyor. Yunan merkezli "geopolitico.gr" Türkiye’nin hazırladığı yeni düzenlemenin Ankara’nın deniz yetki alanları konusunda geri adım atmayacağı mesajı taşıdığını yazdı. Haberde, “Türkiye Mavi Vatan konusunda ne kadar ciddi olduğunu dünyaya gösterecek” ifadeleri kullanılırken, Atina yönetimine Ege’de kara sularını 6 deniz milinden 12 deniz miline çıkarma çağrısı yapıldı. Çıkış, Doğu Akdeniz ve Ege’de deniz yetki alanları eksenindeki gerilimin yeniden tırmanabileceği yorumlarını beraberinde getirdi.

🇪🇺🇹🇷Reports that Turkey is preparing domestic legislation to codify its illegal claims in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean are being viewed as a major warning sign for EU-Turkey relations, as the move constitutes a direct challenge to the EU itself, openly violating international law and the sovereign rights of two EU member states. At a time when Brussels is actively operationalising Article 42.7 into a credible collective defence mechanism-and when the EU’s credibility in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its member states is increasingly under scrutiny- the usual cycle of diplomatic statements and symbolic condemnations will no longer suffice. Any escalation risks compelling the EU to respond with concrete and substantive measures rather than rhetoric alone. Defending international law, alongside the sovereign rights and core interests of its member states, is not optional for the European Union; it is a foundational obligation explicitly enshrined in the EU Treaties.

1974: When Türkiye Blocked the Soviet Door to the Eastern Mediterranean Arafat’s regional alignments cannot be understood outside the Cold War map of the Eastern Mediterranean. In the 1970s, Greek Cyprus was strongly influenced by left-wing and pro-Soviet currents, while Moscow was seeking deeper access to the Mediterranean, from Syria’s Tartus to the political fractures of Cyprus. For Türkiye, the crisis of 1974 was not merely an ethnic dispute on an island. It was a strategic emergency. Ankara saw the possibility of Turkish Cypriots being crushed, while Cyprus risked becoming another Soviet-leaning platform in the Eastern Mediterranean. This came only months after the Yom Kippur War, at a time when the entire regional balance was being redrawn, from Sinai to the Levant. Henry Kissinger understood this wider strategic picture. For Washington, Türkiye was a NATO pillar, and Cyprus could not be allowed to become a Soviet aircraft carrier in the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean. And, of course, when history presents the Turks with a geopolitical opening, they rarely miss it. In 1974, Türkiye did not only change the future of Cyprus. It changed the balance of the Eastern Mediterranean.
