Delighted to join colleagues and partners in Oslo today to discuss global humanitarian action. UNICEF is grateful to Norway for leading by example with its longstanding support for children and commitment to international humanitarian law. It matters now more than ever.

.@UNICEF is grateful to all our donors for the ongoing support to the #Ebola response, including the US State Department. Such support is critical at this early moment so that we can do everything we can to stop the deadly disease in its tracks.

What were you like in the 90s? From dancing the macarena to using cellphones, the 90s were home to trends and lifechanging inventions – ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) is one of them. RUTF made malnutrition treatment accessible closer to home, helping 9 out of 10 children recover in a matter of weeks. But millions of children still need what we started in the 90s and together, we can make it happen. unicef.link/3PfKnal

As the civil conflict enters its fourth year, the protracted hunger crisis in Sudan shows little sign of abating. Violence, displacement and severe humanitarian access constraints are impacting children, families and communities across the country. Statement from @FAO, @WFP and UNICEF: unicef.link/4nwLsal

In Somalia, famine risk is emerging once again. 1.9 million children face acute malnutrition as disease outbreaks are rising and access to essential services declines. #UNICEF is responding, but urgent funding is needed now to save lives. @UNICEFAfrica unicef.org/somalia/press-…

Thank you @JTBC_news for putting a spotlight on children who too often go unseen. 30 years of ready-to-use therapeutic food have revolutionized how UNICEF and partners treat child wasting, while working towards ensuring that no child becomes malnourished in the first place.

Our hearts and thoughts are with Ted Turner’s family and our colleagues at the @UNFoundation. Ted Turner was a champion for children who shared UNICEF’s vision that every child deserves a fair chance in life. His legacy will live on.

More than 1,000 aid workers killed in three years. This is unacceptable—and an absolute failure. Humanitarian law must be upheld. Humanitarians must be protected. Humanitarian work must continue. Grateful to @MilkenInstitute for the conversation. Aid workers are #NotATarget.

So much great journalism recognized today by the @PulitzerPrizes. Congrats to my Times colleagues including @mashagessen and Gaza photographer Saher Alghorra (who shot extraordinary photos while hungry and in danger himself), to the Wash Post on its public service award, to the StarTrib for its ICE coverage award, to @jkbjournalist for her citation, to Jill Lepore for her book award and to all the journalists around the world who inspire me each day, in the face of twin threats from an authoritarian drift and a struggling journalism business model. Here's the full list of winners. nytimes.com/2026/05/04/bus…

The recent attacks in Bamako, Mopti, Gao, Kati and Kidal that started on 25 April 2026 have shown, yet again, that it is children who are paying the highest price of ongoing violence in Mali. Every child in Mali must be protected from all forms of violence. UNICEF remains committed to supporting children and families affected by these attacks. Learn more: unicef.link/4tdwLum

Nyawar Biel broke the cycle of malnutrition for her three-year-old son, Wictour, in South Sudan. Displaced from their home by climate-driven floods, Wictour had grown quite weak last year. His mother took him to a UNICEF-supported nutrition programme, where he was treated for severe acute malnutrition and is now recovering. Millions of children in South Sudan are suffering from acute malnutrition, with nearly 700,000 children in danger of its deadliest form. Deepening hunger in South Sudan is pushing 7.8 million people into high levels of acute food insecurity. The crisis is driven by escalating conflict, mass displacement, economic decline, climate shocks and lack of access to healthcare, among other factors. Parties to the conflict must ensure safe, rapid and unfettered humanitarian access to all affected areas. Learn more about the hunger crisis in Sudan: unicef.link/42oEivr
