Why is $clanker special?
People say words, phrases, slang all day every day. But 99% of them wouldn’t crack 100k if tokenized.
If it’s not about how often a word or slang is used, what makes the token valuable?
We must look to the substance of the matter. What is the word/slang’s relationship to culture; to who we are as people right now?
Slang like “aura farm” captures the Super Ego, a brief moment where one appears to be the person they’ve always seen themselves as. Our current age is hyper-focused on the elevation of the individual, with winning the popularity contest of social media and satisfying a person’s deep desire to feel special and gazed upon. In this way, the substance of the slang speaks to our current time & soul and greatly contributed to its staying power and general embrace into the lexicon.
‘Clanker’ captures this in such a unique way. It is the intersection of AI & Racism, which are the two primary visceral topics that Gen Z has been bombarded with their entire existence. However, they have felt a deep lack of hope & powerlessness accompanying these realities. Whether it’s the fear of being cancelled for saying the wrong thing, or the fear of irrelevance in the labor market to AI, they have acquired a learned helplessness and deep irony to cope.
‘Clanker’ breaks Gen Z from these cultural cages by allowing them to loudly shout slurs without offending anybody. It allows them to a tool to voice their frustration towards an economic system that looks set to leave them behind. It permits the cathartic release of fear, and the nurtures a primal desire to speak harshly without repercussions. It is a pressure release valve for their existence.
This, coupled with all of the viral catalysts that are likely obvious to everyone (‘is it racist’ debates on the news, permeation into the podcast sphere, Elon mention, politicians using it to further their legislative aspirations, etc), it creates a perfect storm of rapidly growing popularity, and a deep connection to the human experience.
This is something that becomes a part of culture. Likely something that will be added to the dictionary at the end of the year, and something that will be written about in history books in the future.
It’s also the first slur invented by Gen Z, which is unique.
Every other ‘AI Slur’ will likely catch bids and prosper to a degree, but not to the same degree as $clanker. It’s cheap at 5M, and you can own the main runner.
Note: Want to shout out cogsec as well. It taps into this dynamic, yet is a bit more niche in nature.
