Comedian Learnmore Jonasi was mid-performance when he got served with a $27 million lawsuit right on stage…all because of his viral Lion King joke. Composer Lebohang Morake is suing him for $27 million over a clip where Jonasi hilariously translated the iconic intro as: “Look, there’s a lion!” 😂💀 Who else thinks this is wild?

The Feynman point is a famous pattern in the digits of π. It refers to the sequence 999999, which appears starting at the 762nd decimal place of π. The name comes from the physicist Richard Feynman. He jokingly said that if this sequence occurred earlier in π, he would memorize π up to that point and end the recitation with “…nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, and so on.” This amusing coincidence became known as the Feynman point and is a fun example of surprising patterns appearing in the digits of π.

@CalumDouglas1 1. Exhaust flow rate of such small engine is too slow to add any thrust at all.. 2. Hot exhaust gases flowing back would damage propeller. + Bending exhaust pipes needs more durable materials to whitstand heat.

80 years later and on military aero engines they cant even take advantage of exhaust thrust. The added "thrust power" to be gained can easily exceed 10% of the brake power of the main engine. All this was known to every sensible aero-engine designer in 1940. But no, lets stick four drainpipes on it because bending a bit of steel tube is just impossible to do economically in 2026.

@mos03c @BlakeSNeff I gotcha. Front page headlines such as "British Bag Ships" or "Lingayen Retaken" have been digitized as part of the story beneath them, so a search on that phrase finds them. "Japanese Forces Wiped Out In Western Luzon" isn't paired with a digitized story so a search won't work.

Just reached this timely anecdote while reading The Rising Sun: During the first week of the Pacific War, America hallucinated a massive victory over the Japanese that never happened. People are making a lot of bold proclamations of triumph or disaster wrt Iran. But the fog of war is thick. A lot of claims will age poorly. Be skeptical.

This is a ballsy power play by Trump. Lloyd's of London was the gold standard for maritime insurance policies until just a day or two ago when they started cancelling policies or jacking them up 3-5X. Others insurers followed. That collapsed commercial shipping traffic through Hormuz, which choked oil shipments out of the Middle East. Trump doing this means the DFC has the chance to displace Lloyd's as the big dog in this game, when they have been the lock-in player for many years. It also frees up all the oil that was getting trapped there, heading off shortages and keeping the energy market alive. And why not? It's the American navy that sunk the Iranian ships that were harassing tankers. And the American Navy -- at least for now -- will keep those tankers safe. It's a huge reassurance to allies -- both oil producers and oil consumers -- that our campaign in Iran isn't going to sink their economies. And it allows America to be choosy about traffic in the Strait. It also potentially means billions of dollars in insurance premiums at wartime rates going to America instead of the UK. And those rates are STILL going to be cheaper than what shippers were getting.

Jeff Teague talking about if Larry Bird played in today’s NBA: “Watching Jokic highlights and y’all thinking how good Jokic is? How good you think Larry Bird would be right now? Because when I watch older people play, they be like he ain’t athletic he ain’t this. But then when I watch Jokic it’s just like he is walking around, he just make it look so simple. Like if Larry Bird played right now, like Luka and Jokic just be walking around. Larry Bird would average 30,10,8.” (Via @club520podcast)

The Austrian government still refuses overflight permits to the USAF C-17s ever since the USAF snuck 2 F-117s through their airspace with a KC-10 in 2002. The Austrians became suspicious of the flight plan and scrambled 2 Saab Drakens and spotted the F-117s. This stunt by the USAF has caused them millions of dollars in extra jet fuel over the decades because of having to circumnavigate the Austrian airspace.

In today's episode of "you should own nothing and be happy", we have Florida governor Ron DeSantis saying the problem is that old people aren't trading in their bigger homes for smaller homes. He phrases it as a tax issue, but the underlying statement here is he's saying that as you get older you should have to sell your forever home and move to The Villages to get 19 STDs because...reasons? “You’ve got older people that have been in their home for a long time. They've had protection against valuation increases for 30 years. They're not downsizing because if they go from a three or four bedroom home to a condo, the tax basis is going to be so much higher that they can't afford it" Maybe, just maybe Ron, after someone has spent 30 years paying for their home, they should be able to stay in it if they want.

@TheLegalMindset Prosecutors refusing the 'settlement' is huge. ⚖️ In many jurisdictions, paying off a victim can lead to leniency, but the Korean court is clearly prioritizing public order and the severity of the deepfake charges over a private deal. #LegalUpdate

Today could not have gone worse for Johnny Somali (aka Ramsey Khalid Ismael) in his trial in South Korea > Prosecutors refused to drop the deepfake charges and ignored his unoffical "settlement" with Korean streamer Yongman or attempts to blame Bong Bong > The Judge and court were offended by his attempt to blame Korean culture for his actions, stating they are acceptable in the United States > His "not apology" apology focused only on his ignorance of the consequences, and trying to claim innocence because the victim (BongBong) was not charged. Tried to claim the laws were unfair, neither the Judge nor Prosecutor liked this argument. > Prosecutors recommended 3 years prison time WITH MANUAL LABOR, the maximum fine, and offical sex offender registration > The Judge set the official sentencing date two months out, instead of the typical 2 weeks, extending the painful waiting process (process is the punishment) This is the FO part of FAFO for Ramsey Khalid Ismael.

Chris Williamson's brutal wake-up call in 46 seconds: “Adults don't exist.” He runs down the list: - Steve Jobs delayed pancreatic cancer treatment for carrot juice and acupuncture. - Mozart drowned in debt, constantly begging friends for money. - Nietzsche caught syphilis in a brothel and sold only 300 copies of his work in his lifetime. - Martin Luther King had affairs with over 40 women and spent his last night with two of them. - Isaac Newton wasted 30 years on alchemy pseudoscience his heirs hid out of embarrassment. The point lands hard: Don't put any adult on a pedestal. Kill your gurus. The adults aren't going to save you — they don't even exist. Raw, unflinching, and impossible to unhear. Which "hero" or guru did you once idolize… until you learned the messy truth behind them?

When Russia plays by the rules too well, they just change the rules. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Zagitova built her free skate in a way that squeezed every possible point out of the rules. All her jumps were placed in the second half, where they earned bonus points. It was a very smart and perfectly executed move. After that season, the International Skating Union limited how many jumps could get the second-half bonus. People started calling it the Zagitova Rule.
