Claims that the Baltic States allow Ukraine to use their airspace are utter nonsense - and Russia knows it. Moscow’s threats against the Baltic States are not a sign of strength, but of weakness. Russia is failing on the battlefield in Ukraine and is trying to intimidate us into reducing our support for Ukraine. The right response is to do the opposite: increase our support to Ukraine and boost Europe’s defences even further.

@StevePaul63 Then why do net contributors stay? Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Finland are not in the EU for handouts. They stay because the EU is not just money. It is market access, scale, standards, stability and leverage.

People mock the EU as weak, bureaucratic and dying. Yet countries keep trying to join it. Ukraine. Moldova. Georgia. The Western Balkans. Nobody spends years reforming laws, institutions and economies to enter a “failed project”. The EU is not perfect. But it is still the continent’s main gravity well.
