Still coming down from a great week at Rock League but my thoughts: 1) there were some things that will need to be tweaked for next season but in my view, the two most important things are getting the format right and having the players buy in. Both of those were nailed

Mark Carney could possibly be the first Canadian Prime Minister in our history to achieve a majority government that nobody voted for. When this happens,we no longer have a Democracy.

BREAKING: Mark Carney forms a majority government through floor crossings. Marilyn Gladu. 4 elections as a Conservative. 10 years on the Conservative benches. Today she joined the Liberals. Sarnia/Lambton voted Conservative. They did not vote for Mark Carney. They did not vote for the party she spent 10 years attacking. Resign the seat. Run in a byelection. Let the voters decide. Anything less is a betrayal of everyone who voted for you. Unbelievable

@CBCOlympics This poor fella cant handle last place! It’s ok tho, when he has a bigger things in his life he will have better perspective. For now, he got dead last in the Olympics, but also got back into the slams with his points from the worlds - so that’s exciting for them! 🇨🇦🥇#DFL

This is as bad as I’ve ever seen Team Fujisawa play. Could easily be 8-0 at this point for Einarson

@Localcanada204 @rgfray1 Between TSN and Sportsnet they air 10 week-long curling events with 3 draws a day every year. So they air over 200 curling games a year between them. Seems fairly reasonable. Not sure how much more you could do

3) SFM rules the WCT points, and if you can't travel as often as other teams, you can't get max points. Being able to go into an event and knowing if you have a dynamite weekend you're gonna get a direct reward instead of moving from #40 to #36 is so huge

Massive news dropping today–the Slams are eliminating the Tier 2 events that used to accompany Slam events and are instead turning a bunch of WCT events into direct-entry Slam qualifiers. It's a change I was dying for back when I played and is a huge day for the sport

@martycus Silly me, the six elections I won I somehow thought it was by divine right. Good of you to clear that up and at the same time announce the winners of the three by-elections before voting has even taken place. You are a democratic genius. 🤡

The floor crossing is excessive for a government that is less than a year old in a minority parliament. Serious commentators and analysts might want to turn their attention to the longer term implications of seizing a majority this way and what it does for trust in politicians.

Mark Carney is currently attempting what is maybe the least democratic thing in Canadian history, cobbling together an illegitimate majority he didn’t earn during the election through backroom deals and who knows what else. If you want a majority government in Canada, you should earn it at the ballot box.

@cullenoncurling @Canardiana @JeffHernaez in a way, it rewards the work done in previous seasons to make the olympics at all, which is otherwise not captured in this year's rankings (unless you came thru the OQE, which isn't huge for points)

@Canardiana @JeffHernaez It’s an every 4-year deal and the points pretty much reset after this season, but yes, seeing it worth 50 points more than a Slam is a little jarring. Japan going 2-7 and earning almost as many points for a victory in an average tour event likewise

For the first time in quite some time, Rachel Homan is no longer the World #1, as Silvana Tirinzoni’s silver medal finish puts them just ahead. Anna Hasselborg also flew up 10 spots to #3 off the absurd Olympic total (50 points more than winning a Slam!) and Tab enters the top 10

Lifelong Toronto/GTA guy. Someone with an almanac can correct me, but I can't recall seeing anything like this. There's just no place to put all this snow in a city this dense. City is going to need to truck it out or dump it into the lake. It's going to take days. Wild stuff.
Kaylan Patel@WxPatel

This is genuinely one of the most absurd lake effect bands in Toronto’s history. A stationary band with snowfall rates exceeding 6cm/hr is absolutely pummelling the city. When it’s all said and done, snowfall totals could push 60-70cm or more by tomorrow morning. #onstorm

The new Canada-Alberta MOU is a positive step for our energy future. Meaningful investments in Pathways, clear measures to reduce emissions, and a stronger industrial carbon price give Albertans the certainty we need to move forward. /1

@cullenoncurling This sounds like the same logic that results in major figures in the sport disappearing for “personal reasons”, with no explanation for fans, shielding athletes from public scrutiny. Enjoy your complicity.

@cullenoncurling Sure, you have every right to operate inside an echo chamber. Do you think that helps advance the sport? Do you think choosing venues based on what’s fun for curlers, versus drawing crowds, is good for business?

@cullenoncurling if you really believe that criticism is fair, perhaps refrain from quoting the critiques in a baby voice. I had to turn the pod off and likely won’t be listening again. We need independent media.
