STATEMENT: The @CA_Kenya has directed Kenyan media to halt live protest broadcasts and hinted at an internet shutdown. This is an illegal, dangerous attack on press freedom, public safety, and the right to information. We demand the immediate withdrawal of this unconstitutional directive. Gentle reminder 📌 Obstetric fistula is preventable by reducing the number of early and unplanned pregnancies, ending harmful practices (such as child marriage), and ensuring access to quality emergency obstetric care, especially access to caesarean sections. When access to quality treatment is available, obstetric fistula is also curable. Join us on Friday, 23 May, 2025, as we observe the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. Let's raise awareness and enhance efforts to end obstetric fistula. #EndObstetricFistula #RestoreDignity

Reminder📌 Article 15 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights establishes the right to a nationality, affirming that everyone has the inherent right to belong. However, stateless individuals are systematically denied this fundamental right. They face numerous obstacles, including limited access to #education, restricted #healthcare, barriers to employment, difficulties in opening bank accounts or purchasing property, and constraints on marriage and family rights. As a result, stateless persons are often marginalized, stripped of their dignity and basic human rights. #EndStatelessness

URGENT ACTION : RELEASE ARBITRARILY DETAINED JOURNALIST 🚨🚨 Blessed Mhlanga’s detention is arbitrary and in contravention of Zimbabwe’s constitutional and international obligations to respect and uphold the right of everyone to freedom of expression and press freedom. Blessed Mhlanga, a senior journalist with Alpha Media Holdings, has now spent 9 days in pre-trial detention. Journalism is not a crime and media practitioners should be able to discharge their professional duties without fear of reprisals. Authorities must stop misusing the criminal justice system to silence journalists and clampdown on the right to freedom of expression and independent media. A free, uncensored and unhindered press is essential to ensure the right to freedom of expression and other human rights. #JournalismIsNotACrime @bbmhlanga

No woman should die while giving birth, when such deaths are preventable. The Zimbabwean authorities need to intensify their efforts to ensure that all women and girls enjoy their rights to maternal, sexual and reproductive health and choice. #RestoreDignity

Women's Rights Are Human Rights! We are all entitled to human rights. These include the right to live free from violence and discrimination; to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn an equal wage. But across the globe many women and girls still face discrimination on the basis of sex and gender. Gender inequality underpins many problems which disproportionately affect women and girls, such as domestic and sexual violence, lower pay, lack of access to education, and inadequate healthcare. Through research, advocacy and campaigning, Amnesty International pressures the people in power to respect women’s rights. Read more : amnesty.org/en/what-we-do/…

Amnesty International stand in solidarity with Blessed Mhlanga (@bbmhlanga) who is expected to appear before the Harare Magistrates Court today. Authorities must not misuse the justice system to silence journalists and clampdown on freedom of the media. Freedom of the media is important in advancing human rights. Responsible reporting on the issues that shape people’s lives is a key building block of any free society. #JournalismIsNotACrime
