this is pure bullshit. I was reading at a university level when I entered kindergarten. counselors told my mother I needed "psychological evaluation" because of this. Gifted and talented my whole school career. AP classes that I attended to the barest minimum - my high school principal called me to a meeting to say I had the highest grades in all of my Venice High School class as well as the lowest attendance - had I missed ONE more day of school I'd have been left back. I was also an active gang member that whole time. SAT scores higher than Giraffe Pussy. EVERY amazing magazine you held in your hands that I edited, wrote parts of, organized, helped to create, the article(s) that changed HIp Hop history penned by me? ALL the result of procrastination. Sometimes I even blew deadlines if I knew the creative difference would be crucial. MANY many nights I napped briefly in the office of Complex or The Source, did a birdbath in the corporate restroom, and then another 12-hour workday to make those magazines the best possible form of Cultural Currency. I mashed weeks into days, because I am over-intelligent, some say a genius... And genius comes at a price. I never finished my 2nd year of college. I hold no degree. Nowadays when folks can't afford an entertainmen attorney, they call me. I write contracts from a blank page, and major corporations sign them, wondering how an under/indie artist could afford such good legal representation on such short notice. I get VERY few redlines back from high-powered attorneys or the "legal department" at what passes today for "record labels". I write them at the last minute. There is brilliance in "procrastination". Genius comes to those who wait. Corporate deadlines are the antithesis of Creativity. YOU DO NOT TELL US WHEN TO GO. No matter how "large" the paycheque - and ALL the cheques are far, far too tiny to merit Dwight Mann's issuance of "deadlines". I'd rather make a free 'zine on recycled paper than ever lease y'all a single word of what I write again in life. Capitalism Destroys Creativity and Damages Creatives, often irreparably. But Capitalism in not greater than The Creator. A synthetic system designed by those with smaller brains and certainly smaller minds, bound to implode entirely in front of this generation's very eyes.
