🎖️ Excellence doesn’t happen by chance; it’s shaped through preparation, practice, and realistic exercise. Members of the Mid-Atlantic Region DCT and SORT participated in an international skills competition in Moundsville, West Virginia, for the annual Mock Prison Riot. The training exercise marked BOP’s return in participation, which provided an important opportunity to strengthen correctional readiness, teamwork, and collaboration. @BOPDirector Marshall delivered inspiring remarks uplifting the mission of correctional professionals. Protect our communities. Safeguard our staff. Uphold the standards of our profession. Read the full article👉 bit.ly/4nKJXp9

“Behind the badge, we are all human beings.” Corrections fatigue is more than being tired, it’s the physical, mental, and emotional wear and tear of constantly showing up when energy is low. Employee Wellness is the Bureau’s number one priority and during this #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth our first step to improvement is launching an agency-wide wellbeing survey to hear directly from our staff on how we can build a better Bureau together. 🫶 Nothing builds community like small acts of appreciation and service! Recently, a local church took a moment to show their appreciation for the staff at the #FCCFlorence by distributing hot coffee and pastries to employees as they entered the facility. Sometimes it’s the simple things, a cup of coffee at 5am, a kind word, or just a moment to pause and say thank you. #StaffAppreciation

📜 FBOP: This Day in History👮 On May 14, 1930, President Herbert Hoover signed the law establishing the Federal Bureau of Prisons, creating the foundation for the modern federal correctional system. The Bureau’s creation followed key developments in the 1920s. Assistant Attorney General Mabel Walker Willebrandt championed the establishment of a youth facility in Chillicothe and a women’s reformatory in Alderson, and she recognized the need for centralized oversight of federal prisons. In 1928, James V. Bennett, who would later become the Bureau’s second Director, conducted a landmark study that exposed overcrowding and the lack of meaningful inmate programs across the federal prison system. His findings helped drive congressional action and shaped the Bureau’s early mission. #FBOPHistory bit.ly/3XtSYXX

🎤 Behind every young person’s decision is often at the influence of an adult; someone who showed up, spoke life into them, or helped them see beyond their circumstances. BOP proudly welcomes volunteers and their experiences that remind inmates there’s more waiting beyond incarceration: opportunity, purpose, and the chance to rewrite their story. Today, @BOPDepDirector Smith spoke on a panel hosted by Athletes for America at the America First Policy Institute, an event focusing on youth mentorship and the impact it has on reducing youth crime. #CrimePrevention #Mentorship.
