Today, we are once again witnessing the reckless abuse of @policenh powers against social media users in Nigeria. What is even more disturbing is how some Nigerian celebrities now appear more eager than politicians and security agencies to throw largely poor young Nigerians into prison under the guise of “cybercrime,” simply because of internet banter or comments they dislike. I have read reports about singers like @Simi and @AdekunleGold allegedly using the police against critics online, and now similar allegations involving @ayrastarr and others keep surfacing. Meanwhile, these same celebrities sit comfortably among international stars abroad demanding respect and award for creative freedom and artistic expression, yet many of those global celebrities would never (and functioning systems) won’t let them weaponize the police, corrupt prosecutors, or compromised court judges against ordinary citizens over free speech or online commentary. This growing culture of criminalizing speech, jokes, criticism, trolling, and online banter is dangerous to democracy and fundamentally incompatible with freedom of expression. The real shame belongs to the irresponsible Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG and sections of the justice system that continue enabling these abuses instead of protecting citizens’ rights. The police must stop acting as private enforcers for the rich, connected and powerful. Nigerians cannot continue to be shipped to prison because influential people are offended online. #RevolutionNow

Few weeks ago, I fainted in my home, exactly in my kitchen. 2 days to the Skill Fair of KOKA Academy LTD students. My gratefulness is that my husband was around that day in the kitchen to resuscitate me. He immediately rushed me to the hospital. I took about 7 drips and 2 injections and was admitted. As soon as I was able to talk,the first thing I told him was,"please open my WhatsApp,search for my employers name, tell her I was in the hospital and wouldn't turn up for work today." He did. Someone would think that the first thing I should do after regaining consciousness was rest but I did what I did out of fear. Last year, when I was to have an operation, I told my then employers 2 weeks ahead of time and told them I'll be away for 10 days. That's the right thing to do, right? Well, I lost the job as soon as I returned from the hospital. I contemplated telling my present employer about my state of health but then, I fainted on a Tuesday. A work day. As someone big on communication, I didn't just want to be absent from work, but I feared I'll lose the job just like the last one. I eventually decided to settle for what was right and tell her and she was very kind and gracious. Such a Nigerian thing to be. I just thought of both scenarios now and realised that there's no manual to being on the right side especially being transparent. Just do what is right even though it eventually costs you. At least you will have peace. ... and oh,my diagnosis came with low blood pressure,low blood count... and ulcer.
