@mattyglesias Isn’t Harris just a slightly worse version of Newsom? Feels like he’s a better bet.

@Goodstyle42 @mattyglesias my (Michigan-residing) formerly GOP (anti-Trump suburbanite) mom who was excited to watch the first Dem primary, and had "read good things about Kamala": "Was she on some sort of drug? What was wrong with that woman?"

@cdwilsher @MrBeerseeks @mattyglesias @mnolangray "he's from California" will be a huge negative in the general, particularly in Midwest and southern swing states. Underappreciated reason for Harris underperformance.

@MrBeerseeks @mattyglesias @mnolangray Yet, he has run for office in eight general elections and won eight times. The Lefties are still mad that he beat Matt Gonzalez in '83. It was the one time the Greens thought they might win something.

@ImNotEmilyLee @mattyglesias The average wage quoted in the reporting is $20, which I see you've inflated, and no, lol, they're not paying competitive BCBA wages. This is an unregulated industry. Bottom of the barrel at every decision point. Also your patient : provider ratio is a huge underestimate.

@pepsiskateboard @mattyglesias Even assuming below average wages for NC therapists and BCBAs, and assuming the distributed cost for fully staffing and equipping is just $10, the raw cost per hour is gonna be $45, and this doesn't include cancellations, unbillable hours, generating reports, + therapy plans...

@ImNotEmilyLee @mattyglesias Yes, of course there other costs, all spread across all patients. No, they absolutely do not come close to $63/hr/patient.

@pepsiskateboard @mattyglesias Because the in-person therapist isn’t the only one involved? There’s at least a clinical supervisor that will help out and record progress, and a BCBA who will design the therapy plans. It’s like only paying the chef who made your food, and no one else

@DerekJMiller2 @LeslieProll @JNelsonLDF Who voted for them? (mostly white people, and by huge margins). I care about minority voter preferences. The color of the particular rep is of course irrelevant... unless you're racist.

@LeslieProll @JNelsonLDF You know it’s funny we have black elected Republicans all over the south Hispanic elected Republicans all over the south. But to you, they’re not minorities because they’re not Democrats. you’re a fucking racist.

@MustelidDwyer @AlHendiify Yeah, I'm changing the subject a little (sorry). Not asking about wolves, which (aren't relevant near most human population areas anyway). I've always been confused about the relationship between tick pops and deer pops. just asking about this from a deer management perspective.

@pepsiskateboard @AlHendiify Well, maybe, but 1) wolves exclude other canids like coyote & foxes, which eat mice 2) rodent populations are denser in fragmented landscapes that are closer to humans, where apex predators are less able to survive and hunt. These are the areas where ppl get most Lyme

@MustelidDwyer @AlHendiify But they do basically need (or at least strongly prefer?) a large mammalian host (deer) for the third blood meal, right? If deer populations were brought down to lower levels, would black leg ticks also go down, or would they rely solely on smaller hosts?

@AlHendiify It’s still a good and necessary project to reintroduce apex predators even if it doesn’t reduce the prevalence of Lyme disease though

@mattyglesias @daveweigel Yeah but in Oakland you actually do have many Black lefty Dems, unlike other places. (Would wonder more about Hispanic pop.)

@daveweigel I think it’s gotta be Jayapal’s district in Seattle, you’re basically looking for the maximum number of non-black Dems in the electorate.
