Milton Friedman: “Keep your eye on one thing and one thing only: how much government is spending, because that’s the true tax.” “If you’re not paying for it in the form of explicit taxes, you’re paying for it indirectly in the form of inflation or borrowing.”

In 1980, we had one regulator for every 11,000 people working in financial services. Today, it's closer to one regulator for every *75* people. Bureaucrats always create more rules and always work to expand their powers. The idea that we can "regulate for growth" is ludicrous.

@Steven_Swinford A rise in tax rates provides disincentives for economic activity, with many unintended (or perhaps intended 🤷‍♂️) consequences. 🤦‍♂️

Wes Streeting has this morning set out his tax plans - specifically bringing capital gains tax into line with income tax He says that the current system is unfair because it penalises work Higher or additional rate taxpayers will pay 24% on gains in the current financial year. Streeting said that the rates should mirror income tax bands - so 40% for higher rate taxpayers and 45% for additional rate taxpayers He says that the approach could raise £12billion a year Streeting said: “A member of my family is a cleaner in Lancashire. She pays a higher tax rate on her salary than her landlord pays for the growing value of the home she lives in. She slogs her guts out, he puts in far less effort, yet the state rewards him more than her. And we wonder why people are angry. “The system is penalising work. It’s not fair and it’s bad for our economy. We need a wealth tax that works. A pound made from simply owning assets should not be taxed less than a pound made from a hard day's work. We can do it in a way that is pro-growth, pro-entrepreneur and pro-work.”

Just stop. Literally, the biggest European genocide since the holocaust was against 8,000 Bosnian men and boys, who were selectively killed in Srebrenica because of their gender, which the @UN were actively complicit in. And it's not just in Eastern Europe, it happens across the world... Saddam's Anfal Campaign (1988): 100,000 Kurdish men and boys selectively killed. The British Siege of Delhi (1857): Around 9,000 men and boys selectively killed. The Bangladesh Liberation war (1971): hundreds of thousands of men and boys selectively killed. Kashmir (ongoing): Thousands of men and boys disappeared, selectively kidnapped, or killed. Aksum (2021): Several hundred men and boys selectively rounded up and executed. Nigeria (ongoing): Tens of thousands of boys taken, and turned into child soldiers. World War Two (1933-45): 5,000 - 15,000 gay men selectively killed in concentration camps. There are simply too many examples to give, of men and boys being killed because of their gender. I am so tired of idiotic social media acolytes saying ‘misandry doesn’t kill’, when millions of men and boys have died for that very reason. The utter arrogance and entitlement of such people, to assume that just because they don't know something, must surely mean it doesn't happen. So please, stop pretending that "misandry doesn't kill", because it’s not fair for men and boys to pay the price of your ignorance. Misandry kills. Misogyny kills. If you cannot say that, then sit this one out and please be quiet. Thank you.

The following HMRC tax receipts have gone ‘down’ since Labour ‘increased’ their rates: 1. Capital Gains Tax (people just sold fewer assets) 2. North Sea oil & gas (people invested less because of 78% windfall tax) 3. National Insurance (people hired less staff) @CutMyTaxUK

Admitting previous mistakes is an important step and all credit for doing this You need to repeal the Constitutional Governance and Reform Act 2010, the Climate Change Act 2008 and much of planning law Ministers must be in charge. Quangos need to be abolished or subordinated to their ministries The first principle should be "do we need this law"? If not, ditch it Create an environment where regulation is principles based with severe penalties for real harm. But otherwise the government should get out of the way Get rid of MTD and massively simplify the tax code. You need to hire some total nerds to sit in a room to do this

What laws would you pass to make our country better and actually FIX things, not just rehearse the problem statement yet again? With the Kings Speech in Parliament this week, we Conservatives have set out constructive plans of what we would do. And yes, much of it reverses mistakes made by previous Conservative administrations as well as a failed Westminster consensus of more than 20 years because changed leadership means a different approach. That is precisely the point. That list: •Welfare Reform Bill •Back Our High Streets Bill •Get Britain Working Bill •Reducing Bureaucracy Bill •Save British Industry Bill •Cheap Energy Bill •Get Britain Drilling Bill •ECHR (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill •Human Rights Act (Repeal) Bill •Protecting Our Borders Bill •Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship Bill •Take Back Our Streets Bill •Sovereign Defence Fund Bill •Protect Our Veterans Bill •Restoring School Standards Bill •Youth Opportunity Bill

A reminder that Harriet Harman's political report "The Family Way" advised: "it cannot be assumed that men are bound to be an asset to family life or that the presence of fathers in families is necessarily a means to social cohesion”. She should be nowhere near political power.
