@graceongrid 20 in, 15 running a studio and i'd say personal growth and diversity, always learning new things, new skills, new insights, new industries. What drives me has evolved from doing, to creating the right conditions so others can do great work.

I love my work as a designer and I want to do it for a long time. If you’ve been working as a designer for 15, 20, 25+ years, what do you think has contributed to sticking with, and enjoying your career over that time? Extra curious if you’re an independent/small studio.

As Director of Strategy and Design i often get asked if those two are actually at odds, isn’t strategy analytical while design is solutions? The core of strategy, is identifying problems, and converging on the right solution. Sound familiar? That’s also the core of design!

@cwodtke Any form of design validation and testing. Moderated / unmoderated etc. fast iteration based on user feedback is essential.

What are some things that are NOT design that new Interaction Designers should be familiar with? I'm thinking about stuff like scrum, Kanban, Multivariate testing... They have to be aware of it but not necessarily be able to do themselves.

@juliancole Spoken like a true advertising planner. Differentiating the brand and actually differentiating the product are two very different things. I subscribe to make your brand distinctive, make your product solve the problem better than the competitions.....that’s differentiation.

Trying to differentiate your brand is nonsense. Consumers don’t care if your product is differentiated, they care about their problems not yours. What marketers should worry about is how their brand comes to mind first when the buying moment arises.

Quick question, my dear Twitter network: when I use the phrase “ultra-fast broadband” what speeds does that conjure up, if any? Is it a number at all, or an experience…?

@scottbelsky Agree with @spencercamp innovation requires vision but surveys and “customer research” help us understand what are the right problems to solve not what are the right solutions.

thinking: surveys and “customer research” are only valuable to a product organization if they can be easily overruled and discarded. ..and that pretty much sums up my experience with testing for familiarity when seeking to innovate.

there are product features we THINK drive success, and then those that actually drive loyalty & love. chief among them: design nuances that reduce anxiety (did it save? where is my stuff? how do I x? etc) great products build relationships, and anxiety weakens relationships.

A solid TEDx from @BenAkers. Let’s reframe the language about mental illness and start talking mental fitness and mental strength. And ask our friends how are you feeling? out of 10? youtube.com/watch?v=Y9FEQY…

Morning my @TEDxRTW @TEDTalks is out - filmed in Feb, before the world was turned upside down. It went up last night at 11pm and has already had 24k views. The dream the night before that Steve was still alive and I woke up bit shaken. As you’ll see. youtube.com/watch?v=Y9FEQY…

Don't forget to zoom out and look at the bigger picture people. Sometimes we get too caught up in the little details when there are far bigger problems to solve.
