After careful consideration, I along with the @moolah team have decided to migrate the product to Solana. I want to take the time to write this post about my thoughts on Solana, the Ethereum ecosystem as a whole, and why we made this decision. First - I want to make it clear this decision was not based solely because of Base. I’m bullish on Base as becoming the best and most used L2 on ETH. My decision was because of the Eth ecosystem as a whole. Over the last year +, I’ve seen Solana completely dominate in most aspects. Growth, product, and most importantly, culture. I’ve seen how the Solana leadership cares about nurturing their culture from the ground up. All the while, the Eth ecosystem just feels tiring. For the most part, they only care about tech, and have a holier-than-thou mindset. Completely ignoring the typical user and degen. Culture to me is the most important thing for an ecosystem (security aside). The vibes on Solana v. Eth couldn’t be more different. Solana encapsulates what the “real-world” is like. Degens, speculators, your average person. Eth feels like a bunch of philosophers looking down on the average person. Eth is facing an identity crisis, not knowing the direction they want to go. Apart from that, the roadmap of Solana is much more clear. The L1 works and works well. Eth faces large issues such as fragmentation and chain maximalization. Multiple times people denied trying @moolah simply because we were on Base, not X, Y, or Z L2. I despise the “oh you’re on this chain, not my chain” personality that Eth people have. On Solana, we’ll be able to plug into every product on the chain. While institutions may be picking Eth right now, the people are picking Solana. And that’s where we want to be. While Eth may take another few years to figure out their issues, Solana is shipping real products for the world. Solana, simply put, is the more “fun” chain. The vibes are immaculate and everyone supports each other. The founders hustle. The builders hustle. The users hustle. Overall, we align a lot closer with Solana’s culture. That’s the place we want to be. I believe if Eth doesn’t solve its cultural issues, Solana will continue to dominate as more builders like ourselves migrate over. I realize this migration for us and our users is not easy, but we are committed to refunding users with current minute balances if they sell and have a negative P/L. So it’s a costly move for us, but one that I firmly believe is the right choice. I’m excited to build on Solana and take this product mainstream. I understand reaching PMF shouldn’t and doesn’t matter based on the chain you’re on, but being on Solana gives us a much better chance. I want to be part of an ecosystem and chain that’s exciting, has the right culture, and “feels good.” I remember when I was at the Alliance office a few months ago, I spoke to how culture is starting to set in on all the maturing chains. If you are looking to be a builder in crypto, the chain you deploy on is starting to matter more and more. I now believe Solana is the best place to build, and I’m excited to call it home.
