@DLoesch You all are missing the real message here. Biden just told you (whether he was supposed to or not) that the United States Government is conspiring against businesses! This is how they are getting their 15$ hr min. Wage

@caffshepherd @Mark___Taylor My 1st car was a 1968 Chevy Impala, I wasn't born yet when that car rolled off the lot. I enlisted in HS. Saved every dime I could. Bought the car when I came home. Drove it like I stole it, sold it for parts and paid cash for the next upgrade. A 79 Foed LTD.

The redefined concept of “beater” cars is a profound look into certain people’s disconnect when it comes to today’s economy. When I was buying “beaters” 10-15 years ago, a “beater” was a running vehicle with less than 150k on it and maybe 10-15 years old and it cost under $1500. I once bought a 15 year old Sentra with 200k on it for $400 and it ran for 2 years. Nowadays, these “beaters” are 3-4k for a 2007 Honda with 300k on it. In 2006 a $3000 was the nicest car in the high school parking lot.

My first car was $300 dollars A similar beater today would be upwards of $6k The prevailing low wage job is 2-2.5x higher today but the beater is 20x higher. This is why people think you’re out of touch. Yeah “we” did that but we didn’t live in this economy.
LibertyJ@LibertyJen

Absolutely no one “needs” a car payment. I bought my first 4 cars cash by saving. Buy a used beater. I did this as a 15 year old. The insurance and maintenance is also much cheaper. I didn’t have a car payment until I was in my 30’s!

@Cantrushit Gen X here and I completely agree. When I was young, I used to only buy $500 cars. Today, $5000 is the new $500, but salaries are not that different from the 1990's to now. Imagine saving $5K for a car you know you will need to work on regularly. It's a different world now.

As a Gen Xer, I can tell you boomers and even my own generation comparing their 20s to today’s 20-30 year-olds needs to stop. I paid $600 for a West Hollywood apartment at 23. Today it’s $3500. Burgers weren’t $20, they were $6 to $8 in a nice restaurant. Life is not comparable. It’s a completely different world now.😑

My parents are Boomers. I didn’t grow up with much. My father handmade our Christmas gifts several years in a row. Getting fast food was a very rare thing as a kid. McDonald’s was absolutely a fancy treat for me and my brothers.
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

My parents were boomers. I am GenX. As a kid I can remember getting McDonalds maybe 6 times in my childhood. We never got Happy Meals (too expensive.) We had to share a French fry order. And we could only order 1 hamburger each— my mom brought the American cheese from home and two cans of soda from home. That’s how tight money was in our house. We couldn’t order a cheeseburger with the melted cheese on it from McDonalds. This was my reality for a working-class blue-collar two-income family in the 80’s.

My thoughts go out to Tulsi Gabbard and her family, as her husband battles this serious health problem. I hope and pray that he makes a speedy and full recovery. While the circumstances around her departure are deserving of our sympathy, let’s be clear: Tulsi Gabbard’s only positive contribution to our nation's national security is her resignation. She politicized intelligence. She dismantled critical agencies keeping Americans safe. She weaponized the IC to pursue baseless election fraud claims. And more. We must ensure that her tenure — marked by a devotion to the person of the president and not to the security of the country — represents a terrible exception at DNI and not the new normal.

@chiky_handlr I can only imagine how decent American people feel. It must be so frustrating knowing he’s robbing the county blind. And not a thing you can do. I do truly sympathise with the good honest folk of the U.S. And hope the chickens in Congress grow a spine. Soon!

Henry Olsen@henryolsenEPPC

IT'S OV-AH! Ed Gallrein has defeated Rep. Thomas Massie in KY 4. Massie has cut Gallrein's lead in Campbell down to 2%, but Gallrein still leads districtwide by 10% and leads in Boone by 10% with 88% of that county's vote in. The rural left will pad Gallrein's margin.

My son just aged out of my health insurance. Two choices for him. Pay over $1,400 a month for COBRA or Pay over $400 a month on the Health Marketplace, which is actually the least expensive plan there. Apparently, I'm going to be paying for his cell phone forever to help him out. The system is not set up to help young adults succeed. Housing unaffordable. School is unaffordable and Healthcare unaffordable and you have the guy in the White House more concerned about gold for his ballroom and blue paint for the reflecting pool. #DemsUnited
