Researchers have shown that ordinary Wi-Fi can identify people with extremely high accuracy by analyzing how wireless signals bounce off the human body. Using AI, the system learns unique patterns from a person’s movement, posture, and body shape, almost like a biometric fingerprint. Recent tests using standard Wi-Fi hardware reportedly achieved near-perfect accuracy in controlled environments. The most surprising part is that people do not need to carry a phone or wearable device to be detected. Wi-Fi signals already present in a room can be enough.

One of the biggest allegations in tech right now just hit WhatsApp. > Texas officially sued Meta and WhatsApp over privacy and encryption claims > The lawsuit argues WhatsApp falsely marketed itself as fully private and inaccessible even to Meta > Texas says users were repeatedly shown claims like “no one, not even WhatsApp, can read your messages” > The filing references reports alleging Meta stored and accessed certain WhatsApp communications internally > It claims some contractors and moderation teams allegedly had varying levels of access permissions > The lawsuit heavily focuses on trust, arguing billions of users chose WhatsApp specifically because of its privacy promises > Texas also connects the case to Meta’s broader history of privacy controversies and regulatory fines worldwide > The petition seeks major civil penalties plus permanent restrictions on future access to Texans’ communications > If proven, the case could seriously damage trust in one of the world’s biggest messaging platforms The internet runs on trust. And this lawsuit directly attacks the foundation of WhatsApp’s reputation.

A Japanese manga artist lost his entire Google account forever after he uploaded private files from an old comic he drew to Google Drive. Google’s AI checked the files and flagged them as not allowed. He asked Google to review it again, but they rejected his appeal and banned the account immediately. He can no longer access years of his private drawings and lost access to many websites and services that used his Google login. The artist said this is very embarrassing and causes him a lot of trouble. He warned that it might not happen to people who always follow every rule, but others should be careful. So Google is scanning files that people upload to its cloud storage even if they are supposed to be private. I wonder how long they have been doing this.

LocalSend is what people wanted AirDrop to be. Not locked to one ecosystem. Not tied to cloud servers. Not filled with telemetry. Just fast local file sharing that actually respects privacy. What makes LocalSend special: • fully open source • completely free • no ads • no tracking • no sign-up required • no internet required • no subscriptions • no cloud dependency And it works almost everywhere: • Windows • Linux • macOS • Android • iPhone/iPad • Steam Deck The best part? Your files NEVER leave your local network. That means: • no Google Drive uploads • no Telegram compression • no Discord upload limits • no “uploading to server” delays • no random third-party storage Everything transfers directly device-to-device over your WiFi network using HTTPS encryption. And unlike AirDrop… it works cross-platform instantly. Android ↔ Windows Linux ↔ iPhone Steam Deck ↔ PC Mac ↔ Android Even crazier: the project is community-driven and actively maintained on GitHub with hundreds of contributors. Would you prefer this Over Airdrop?

Is your computer suddenly running out of storage space? Google Chrome was caught secretly downloading a massive 4GB local AI model onto users' devices without asking for anyone's permission. When privacy researchers went digging to find what was eating up system resources, they tracked down the source to a hidden file named weights.bin, tucked away inside a folder called OptGuideOnDeviceModel within Chrome's user data directory. This file contains the raw data weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device Large Language Model. What raised serious alarms in the privacy community wasn’t just the stealth download, but a simultaneous, quiet rewrite of Google's policy. They completely scrubbed a critical line from Chrome's settings page — the exact phrase that explicitly promised its AI features work strictly on your machine “without sending data to Google servers.” When questioned about the sneaky update, Google defended the move by stating that Chrome only triggers this download if a machine has sufficient hardware and free storage space. They argue that keeping the model local actually protects privacy by processing security-related functions on-device rather than sending data to the cloud. They also noted it's part of a rollout for a new Prompt API, which allows third-party websites to query this browser-based AI directly. The good news is that you don't have to let Google hoard your hardware. You can completely block this massive file from downloading (or prevent it from automatically reinstalling if you delete it) by manipulating a few hidden settings: — Open Chrome Settings, head to the System tab, and toggle off On-device AI (if available on your version) — If you don't see that option, type chrome://flags into your address bar, search for #optimization-guide-on-device-model and #prompt-api-for-gemini-nano, and switch both dropdowns to Disabled. Relaunch the browser, and you can safely delete the bloated folder for good At AdGuard, we believe your local storage and your data routing belong to you, not to Google’s stealth experiments. Forcing massive background downloads while watering down user privacy promises is a massive breach of transparency. What about you? Check your folders, did Chrome ninja-download this 4GB file onto your machine? Let us know in the comments and share this post to warn your friends to check their storage! 👇

Most people think Proton Mail encrypts everything. It doesn’t. Here’s what Proton Mail actually encrypts end-to-end: • Email body • Attachments But these are NOT end-to-end encrypted: • Subject lines • Sender addresses • Recipient addresses Meaning Proton can technically access that metadata if legally compelled. Why does this happen? Because Proton follows the OpenPGP standard, where email headers remain unencrypted for compatibility with the broader email ecosystem. That’s also why features like: • Subject-line search • Email routing • Cross-provider compatibility continue to work normally. To be clear: • Your actual email content is still highly secure • Proton still uses strong zero-access encryption • Outsiders still can’t easily access your emails But metadata privacy remains one of the biggest weaknesses in modern email systems. This is also why some privacy-focused users prefer Tutanota, which encrypts email subjects too. How important is metadata privacy to you?

Security experts warn that AI can now steal fingerprints from regular high-resolution selfies. Hackers may only need clear photos taken from about 5 feet away Modern phone cameras and simple AI editing tools can sharpen faint fingerprint lines invisible to the naked eye, allowing people to create fake fingerprints to unlock phones, banking apps, payment systems, or smart door locks. Chinese experts recently showed this on live TV using an ordinary celebrity selfie. Although it does not work with every photo bad lighting, blur, or greater distance can prevent it, the technique has become much easier thanks to better cameras. To protect yourself, think twice before posting selfies where your fingertips face the camera. Blur or cut out the finger areas before sharing photos online, and use stronger security methods such as passkeys or Face ID for important accounts and devices.
