@JakeParkerLIVE No, fuck Bungie, their devs actively participated in riots and I remember them posting to the effect of if you didn't agree with their liberal political views they'd ban you. Bungie can sucky dick. And I know Deej was out in the riots. Fuck Bungie.

I’ll say it bluntly: Today’s Destiny announcement was a result of long-term failures of leadership & a massive blow to the entire industry as a whole. Marathon as an extraction shooter doesn’t look sustainable long-term & I hate that Destiny was deprioritized for it. The extraction genre is too niche & complex as it’s designed, now saturated by prior title releases, breaks Bungie’s long-standing player outreach, & is declining in relevancy rapidly. The PvE modes could bring a much larger population of players to the game, but skeleton-crewing the Destiny IP to prioritize Marathon is a genuinely awful business decision. Marathon itself is fun for sure, but plays off the best systems & foundations of what the Destiny franchise created. Without Destiny, Marathon wouldn’t exist in its current form. Destiny’s biggest fault wasn’t the game when it was actually incredible to play; it was the removal of amazing content, absence of innovation, remaining safe instead of taking risks on new ideas, & limitations from leadership prioritizing profit over player. The coming days are going to be tumultuous for everyone, devs & players alike. Treat each other with kindness. I will be closely watching the Bungie careers page after everything simmers down & hoping, praying to see a hint of stability for projects to come. Hopefully, Bungie as an entity remains & I will absolutely step into a leadership role if they’ll have me to reshape Bungie into the powerhouse it deserves to be.

@crash @riotgames Ive heard of game devs calling reshade a cheat. What if someone has a texture mod on some future game they make and get unintentionally bricked? Nah fuck this

lets autopsy bungie. heres my understanding as to why they failed 1. Sony eyes bungie beacuse they have a live service at its peak and exciting incubations 2. Sony highly values bungie, and also its expertise. At that time sony was deep into its live service push, to low sucess..

@giancar73012035 Its already been reported that the decision to shutter Destiny 2 was made at the start of the year. Thats before Marathon released. So no, Marathons success or failure had nothing to do with Destiny closing down

I'm going to say this a million times in case they don't get it: if *Marathon* had been a total success, "Destiny 2" would still be alive, we'd even have the next expansión but you idiots who hated on Marathon, all you managed to do was kill "Destiny."

Just based on the reactions i've been seeing today, it's no surprise that a D3 has not been greenlit A lot of self reflection is necessary now more than ever, because the hate train you participated in was a contributor to today's result

At MY last Bungie Summit, we discussed Destiny 2, and the future of the game. I still remember them saying: "If you ever want Destiny 3, Destiny 2 cannot be supported at the same time. It would have to be a clear break off in order for us to build it." youtu.be/F6lUE2r07Mo

@JohnTitorVT So this evil profit devil whispered in mercules' ear to buff pulse rifles and introduce spread shot hand cannons? It whispered in dmg's ear to target ban people for essentially nothing? The security team's ears to ignore blatant cheaters?

I'm sorry but this idea that a studio of 800+ people at its peak failed because they made a second game for the first time in 15 years is just stupid beyond all rationale. The actual reason the game failed is because top leadership deliberately mismanaged the studio to inflate its value so they could directly benefit from its acquisition. EVERY problem with D2 that led to this is downstream of that reality.
DestinyTracker🚀@destinytrack

Dropping Destiny 2 for Marathon is certainly a choice.

So let me get this straight: -We never solved the curse of the Dreaming City -We never bound the Nine -We never saw Old Chicago -We never found Xivu f***ing Arath That’s it. It just…ends. Cliffhangers and plot holes. My time in Destiny has been nothing short of life-changing, but nah, I can’t sit well with that. I truly hope that when the June 9th update hits, the @DestinyTheGame @Bungie dev team sits down, either goes live or Vlogs/ViDocs, & gives us an honest retrospective of where we’re at, what they ‘want’ to happen, what they’re pursuing, and where we’re going so far - even if it’s half a decade away. If we’re hitting closure, give us closure.

@redillux @Jivesh1995 @DestinyTheGame “we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. “ This heavily implies a D3. Also according to the last earnings call So y still highly values Bungie, I can assure that valuation isn’t coming from Marathon.

Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

I should mention this, since it’s been a lingering thought — but @Bungie really should return some of the bigger content drops they removed, since it’s rather important to the overall narrative of Destiny. • Destiny - Red War • Destiny - Forsaken • Destiny - Seasonal Stories
