Disappointing, and glad they’re offering order fee refunds for people that thought they could transfer FSD. But honestly based on how many people are complaining, FSD ownership does need to be sunsetted rather than kept around for years to come. People expect to be able to buy FSD once in 2016 and move it to a new car in 2026 that they will use well into the 2030s. I would love to do that as a customer, but it’s not a good business model for Tesla if they have to invest billions in training compute, engineering, validation, testing, legal liability, etc. This $60k variant is already selling at little to no margin. The only shot Tesla has at eventually making money on these units is FSD.

This was my first real drive on FSD 12.5, and I do have criticisms unfortunately. But I still think it did pretty well overall, and has the potential of getting really good with point releases. Maybe it'll improve with a few more drives like it tends to do with new releases. 1/2

@heydave7 I imagine Optimus skill selection to be lime skill tree system in RPG games. You would purchase a package with say 10 skills and you would pick and choose which skills to unlock.

Optimus development and rollout I think will be very different than FSD. Unsupervised FSD is all-or-nothing. Either a human driving is driving/supervising or not. And the stakes are extremely high. However, Optimus will be tackling useful tasks that aren't life-death tasks (ie., driving). These tasks will be rather mundane and Optimus can master the easy ones first and incrementally move to more difficult ones... all the while increasing its utility and value provided.

Tesla says the video shows two different stages of development. At 0:44, the moves are controlled by a human, and the Optimus Robot simply copies them. This appears to be the training stage, but there may also be an autonomous stage where the robot operates without human control. This suggests the software is in the early stages of development and might be 10% complete.
