Last night I received a relatively late face time call from my Dad’s nursing home. Mercifully it was him needing to check urgently with me that I knew he loved me and missed my hugs.’ My dad has dementia I do not need to say anymore @DrDMacaskill

And just like that, somehow I’ve made it to my last ever shift as a student nurse. Through my own struggles, in the midst of a global pandemic and slightly later than the rest of my cohort. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster, but I’ve loved every minute.

After a period of uncertainty, on the 6th April I, much like many other student nurses across the UK will be joining the NHS 6 months earlier than planned. I’m feeling such a mix of emotions but despite the current circumstances, I am grateful for the opportunity. 🌈
