This is an appreciation post for @qatarairways and @HIAQatar. - Food coupons were distributed to everyone at the airport. You could just redeem them at the food court. For all meals, no less. - We had decided to stay at the lounge until the airspace opened. In fact, we went off to sleep at 10:30pm itself. At 12:30am we were all woken up by the lounge staff and asked to move to the transfer desk. The entire airport was getting evacuated, including the staff. Everything was handled smoothly. - Every single staff was attentive and answering questions with a smile. Even if they didn’t have answers…they made us feel very, very comfortable. - Rooms arranged across different 5 star properties across Doha city. With breakfast, lunch and dinner all taken care of. And, we have assurance that stay and food will be taken care of until the airspace is shut. - We are getting all our updates through the hotel @pullmanhotels for now. Folks at the hotel are the sweetest too. Incredibly kind, responsive, and with a sense of humour completely intact despite the pressure and stress. We are staying safe, as safe as we possibly can. I can answer questions, if any.

When you speak to Gemini, your audio is recorded, compressed, sent to a massive data center often in the US/Singapore, processed by 1000s of GPUs, & sent back. If your internet lags for a sec, the translation breaks. Sarvam’s Edge models run entirely on your phone's hardware w/o an internet connection. It is a 294MB micro model that matches the accuracy of Gemini’s multi tb cloud models. Also, it means even a farmer in a dead zone in rural Bihar can have a live, private conversation with a doc in Chennai with zero data costs & zero latency.
Sumanth Raman@sumanthraman

I saw the Sarvam AI video demo of live translation. Sorry for sounding stupid but #Gemini has been doing live audio translation in Indian languages for a long time. Am I missing something here? Live audio translation is not exactly new. I know #Sarvam is Indian built but apart from that is there anything new in this technology? Can anyone explain?

There’s a particular cruelty in cricket’s numbers when you’re a pace bowler. The sport will worship a quick who can touch 150kph even if his average hovers around 30, but a bowler who runs in with the intensity of a man trying to push a broken-down car uphill? He needs to prove himself in triplicate just to get his kit bag in the dressing room... Michael Neser has 423 first class wickets at 23 odd average. He also has 4000+ runs at average around 30. Those are allrounder numbers. Yet until last month, Neser’s entire Test career could be summarized in a coffee break: 2 matches, in last 4 years, each appearance feeling like Australia had remembered they had a spare key hidden under the doormat... Stat sheet doesn’t tell you about the 2010 Shield debut, when a 20 year old Neser dismissed Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh; two batters who’d go on to play Test cricket, whose Test careers would begin after that game & end before Neser got his baggy green. It doesn’t tell you about the countless times he’d be the best bowler in Shield, only to watch the selectors fax in another squad with his name in the “emergency only” column... “I feared my Test career was over,” Neser admitted last summer, and you could hear the exhaustion in that sentence. Not the dramatic exhaustion of a torn ACL or a stress fracture, but the quiet, grinding fatigue of a man who’d torn his hamstring playing Australia A against India A at the MCG; 12 months on the shelf for a glorified practice match. The kind of injury that happens to players who are always available, always dependable, always one phone call away from being told “we need you to carry drinks and maybe bowl 12 overs in nets if it rains.” Neser, at 35, became the human equivalent of that reliable sedan in your garage; works perfectly, gets you everywhere, but everyone’s dreaming about the sports car they can’t afford. And then, the twist. Gabba 2025. Last minute selection over Nathan Lyon, a decision that had Shane Warne’s ghost reaching for the whiskey. A 35 year old on his home ground, picked ahead of the greatest off-spinner of the modern era. The controversy was delicious. The vindication? Even better. Neser’s Test progression reads like a man who’s tired of being the backup plan. 1st Test: 2 wickets. 2nd Test: 5. 3rd Test: 6. 4th Test: 4 in the first innings at MCG, each wicket a middle finger to the idea that you need 90mph to succeed in Australia. He has never gone wicketless in an innings. Not once! In this series where England built their entire philosophy around speed; Wood, Archer, Carse, Atkinson. Neser & Scott Boland have tilted this Ashes by proving that 5 good balls an over beats one thunderbolt followed by four half-volleys... Depth of Australian fast bowling didn’t just keep Neser out of the side; it forged him into something harder, sharper, more complete. While others were being rested & rotated, he was bowling in Cardiff, batting in Glamorgan, learning to be the player you’d build a team around even if nobody ever did... You won’t find many pace bowlers with those numbers, in any country, in any era, still waiting for their moment. But then, you won’t find many cricketers like Michael Neser... He doesn’t need speed. He has got something better: perseverance. And finally, the opportunity.

To counter the doom and gloom on #MUFC... Here's some positives & some points to consider: 🔴Yoro, DeLigt and Shaw are playing great at CB 🔴Cunha is amazing and is going to explode when he scores his first goal 🔴Fully fit Mount and Shaw are a huge boost 🔴Sesko is getting up to speed and Zirkzee is due back very soon 🔴The bomb squad will all leave this week - 100% 🔴The club is almost free from dickheads in the dressing room 🔴We will 100% see 1 or 2 more singings this week 🔴We are playing well, creating chances 🔴When this formation clicks a lot of people are going to be eating humble pie. Right now its 11 players on the pitch learning each other's game, most of them have new teammates to the left and right of them. That takes time and patience but there are good signs all over the pitch. 🔴There is NO problem with Mainoo, as desperate as certain fans and media are trying to manufacture a "saga" there is no drama and he will get his time to shine very soon. Starting stupid "free Mainoo" campaigns won't help; By creating & pushing this narrative as fans ALL you will do is make the issue easy for the journo's to pick up, use and make the situation toxic. I can assure you - its not helping Kobbie or Ruben - just adding more pressure to everyone. 🔴Ruben isn't stupid, I promise you he sees everything we see and is trying to change it. He won't get every decision right, he's not perfect, no manager is - but he sees, he learns and he's working on it. Give him enough time and this team will perform - I'm sure of it. He's young but super sharp and is learning a lot. If Cunha scored the 2 chances he had and Bruno scores that penalty the whole narrative would be different today. 🔴On the flip side, if it gets to 10-15 games and its clearly not working he will hold his hands up and walk away. We are not at that stage yet, not even close and I hope it doesnt come to that but he is a proud guy and if the players just aren't getting it then instead of fighting on like Ole, Erik and others did he will 100% walk away. A lot of people try and discredit me with "blind faith" but its not that, I am a positive fan, more-so a positive person; I see all the flaws, I see all the challenges but rather than obsess over them for clicks like the content creators do I focus on the positives, the big picture. Its a mindset thing, its how I CHOOSE to support and follow Manchester United and respectfully if you don't agree with my approach or opinions you don't have to interact with me, you don't have to comment👍 This week is huge for us, several transfers in and out and 2 games to kickstart our season. Enjoy the ride folks otherwise whats the bloody point! #MUFC

Last month, a number sent me malware via an APK titled 'Union Bank Aadhar Update' on Whatsapp. These typically just lamely forward all SMSes received to steal OTPs, but this one turned out to be a significantly more sophisticated op. Some notes from taking down a scam network:
