Not good, not good at all: this is the sort of tech capacity we vitally need as trade becomes less reliable, the world becomes more unstable, and these are critical for a reason: they allow us to build vital tech including weaponry
Ed Conway@EdConwaySky
🚨EXCLUSIVE The firm at the heart of Britain's critical minerals strategy has ditched plans for a rare earths refinery in the UK, and will build it in the US instead. It's a serious blow to the Chancellor and her plans for "securonomics" ahead of next month's Budget👇

BREAKING: The Dow turns positive on the day and S&P 500 cuts losses to -0.1% as the government shutdown dip is bought.
Once again, the data is crystal clear, government shutdown dips are almost always bought in the long-run.
The Kobeissi Letter@KobeissiLetter
The data-driven reality: History says the dip on the US Government shutdown news will be bought in over 85% of cases.

@albertedwards99 @dailychartbook Adoption of AI helping this. The young university educated face unprecedented generational problems. U.K. Reed reports 55k graduate jobs vs 180k 2 years ago…
English

The 'rich' are not only benefiting from a soaring stockmarket, increasing wealth inequality, but income inequality has increased as well according to ADP. This is becoming a societal crisis imo.

@DaleVince 2% raises 20bn a year. We currently borrow 150bn a year. Surely we need a wealth tax of 25% to break even and raise the amount required? Why saddle our current debt on our children in the future?
English

A 2% tax on wealth of £10m and above wouldn’t scratch the surface, no rich person will go hungry….but it would raise enough money to ensure no child goes hungry (5m do now) or lacks a bed to sleep in (1m kids have that problem) - we end poverty in our country by taking a tiny sum from a tiny number of very wealthy people - Let’s get on with it….

@DrHWazir @wesstreeting @BMAResidents Unfortunately the data tells us AI is already better at diagnostic than any junior doctor or professor. Robot also better at operation. Far less error than a human. Society may be happy to pay £23 for them but will we need less than 20% of them in 10 years?
English

Wes Streeting could stop the resident doctor strikes today - all it takes is a credible path to full pay restoration.
Going from £17.56/hr to £22.67/hr is entirely reasonable for doctors responsible for 100s of sick patients.
So why won’t @wesstreeting negotiate with the BMA?

@thierry_bros I agree! Scrap the policy. High prices have done their high price thing and attracted new supply; there is an ever increasing amount of LNG yoy. By winter spot LNG arrivals will be substantially higher resulting in the need for less storage entering winter.

Inflation in Japan moderated, though less than the consensus forecasts were expecting.
Headline inflation declined from 4.0% to 3.7%, above the consensus forecast of 3.5%.
Excluding fresh food, inflation fell from 3.2% to 3.0% (the consensus forecast was 2.9%).
This will be seen as a cautionary note for the Bank of Japan, which seems inclined to call an end to its hiking cycle.

@ira_joseph @ColumbiaUEnergy It will be interesting to see how the market behaves if it struggles to get to 100% this summer.
English

@rossfmcintyre @ColumbiaUEnergy It does beg the question of how much storage is necessary for a market that is a shadow of its former self. The colder than normal winter is becoming rarer and the normal winter is becoming warmer. Boils down to paying for insurance (storage) or paying for spot in a pinch. #ONGT
English

Here are the injection rates that will take storage to 100% full by Nov. 1 assuming June remains at its current pace of 241 Mcm/d. Aug./Sept. will have to outpace last year. Note Norwegian maintenance will be in Sept. when seasonal gas demand bottoms out. #ONGT @ColumbiaUEnergy
