@bernhardsson Subscribe. I once worked an app release project plan with uncertainties on tasks and proper error propagation. My PMP project manager nearly had a stroke seeing the variance! He claimed that uncertainties just averaged out which is why projects finished on their deadlines.

I suspect devs are actually decent at estimating the *median* time to complete a task. Planning is hard because they suck at the *average*.

@nitsanw I did the same introspection: all 6 of my prior employers went through disruptive M&A of some kind. Maybe I was a chaos master too?! The only two orgs still standing: Cisco (where I am today) and MIT (who hired me as an engineer after my MS.) Disclaimer, your mileage may vary.

It appears one more of them startups I once worked for is dead. Thinking back that's at least 5 Israeli startups that came to nothing, with MY HELP! So it goes ;-) P.S: some startups did survive my help, Ts&Cs apply
