Ag tech giant Syngenta is to build a $120mn crop bioscience centre in the UK -- in contrast to drug companies pulling R&D investments from the country because they dislike the government's pharma policies ft.com/content/462642… via @ft
I cannot view a PDF in adobe without having to click away from requests by AI to summarise it for me THREE times. If AI is so smart how come it can't remember I never want this, huh?
"As the weather turns warmer and the scents of spring fill the air, my thoughts turn to my great aunt's signature dish, which never failed to bring all 13 of her grandchildren to the time-worn oaken table in her expansive kitchen-diner..." [continues for several 100 more words]
🇪🇸🇰🇪🥦🥬 I love @marksandspencer food halls. And highlighting “in season” produce at the entrance is great.
But it’s stupidly pointless when it’s cavolo nero from Spain and broccoli from Kenya
For @ftopinion I covered the @ScienceMagazine analysis of the PhD exodus from US federal govt, its new anti-science direction evident in such decisions as @EPA ‘endangerment’ repeal and pandemic preparedness downgrade

Ozzy, my giant octopus companion, is delighted with his new little friend who will keep him company when I'm out and about. Thanks so much @OctopusEnergy#FreeElectricity
Since I started working in Research Communications, the amount of kit that a film crew bring to shoots has shrunk dramatically... from a trolley and several heavy bags, to something you could take as hand luggage. So many people now film the whole interview on a mobile phone!
I think this is the first time that one of my research stories made it as the cartoon in today's The Times! :D Read the full story here: ox.ac.uk/news/2025-01-2…
An unexpected perk of being a Research Communications Manager was getting to be a palaeontologist for the day! Uncovering prints from the fearsome predator Megalosaurus and an enormous sauropod was an incredible experience. What a story to start 2025! oxford.shorthandstories.com/behind-the-sce…
@william_whyte my cousin, visiting Oxford, demanded to know whether the lions outside St John's College are functional or merely decorative - can you enlighten us?
@Vic_Gill@RichardBlackb18@Lois_climate@sarah_gis Thanks for this Vic - I'd love to know whether we can really improve recycling enough to make it work or if they only real way to make progress on pollution is to reduce, reduce, reduce?
Just about to chair a BBC session asking scientists about sustainability.
Any burning questions for @RichardBlackb18@Lois_climate & @sarah_gis? Anything on materials, fashion, transport, waste, food, health and nature? It’s a pretty impressive, knowledgable panel, so do ask…
It was almost a year ago that Dr Caroline Wood approached us to help with her article celebrating the qualities of artisan cheddar. Over the months, her research has taken her to @iCheeseAwards, Cheddar Gorge Cheese Co, and #AffineurOfTheYear.

@CheeseManSussex My extended family still talk about 'the Christmas when Caroline brought that stinky cheese, Rebel Nun' ... my cousin's partner was convinced a mouse had died somewhere in the room
@william_whyte I beg to know - what is the meaning of this grotesque spotted at Magdalen College where a man appears to have a small elf under his armpit?!
Really glad to see this initiative from @CIPR_Global. I am taking the 75 CPD points challenge and my focus is to improve my understanding of reputational and crisis communications. #CIPR75
