@1stMaineiac @crazyclipsonly Juvenile detention, unless, like you mentioned, the child has murdered someone. Some states have law limiting Juvenile arrests, for instance Florida is 7. Unless the child is arrested for a felony involving violence.

@1stMaineiac @crazyclipsonly Let me go out on a limb here and say you aren’t an attorney. A minor, just like a adult, can be arrested as long as the officer has probable cause. In this case it appears that he does. As far as his punishment after it can differ. Typically a child under 14 will not be sent to

@poorespecter @adnan67935123 @Spriter99880 I’m not disagreeing with that. I just think people want entire countries with complex motivations to be able to be categorized into “good” and “bad” when the reality is far more complicating

@shenrontakes @adnan67935123 @Spriter99880 NATO have never really been the good guys. They were created to combat communism spread by the Soviet Union. But the Soviets were never as big of a threat as we were told. The whole Idea is to scare the public so they dont mind when you spend fortunes on arms.

@poorespecter @adnan67935123 @Spriter99880 And what do the screens in China say about China? I never understand the narrative that there are “good” state actors and “bad” state actors. Just all bad vying for power amongst each other. Just have to find out which boot to live under.

@drpinedat1494 @giannipov @Havoc_Six @WarMonitors Yes, at the end of the day that’s what it comes down to. And if you’re dense enough to believe the “holier than thou” rhetoric from Moscow than that’s up to you. Unlike the failure of the Middle East, the US is not the one pulling the trigger here, just supplying bullets.

@EnejoAbdu @Abia_next_govnr @Spriter99880 So let’s go with 5 launchers destroyed and 1 radar station. How did they figure out the location? Oh because “Russia has an extensive network of informants throughout Ukraine” and I guess none of these informants have a phone? They geolocate the battery but can’t photo it after?

@IntuitMachine @ESYudkowsky @ATabarrok I don’t think discussing risks and the possible negative externalities of new technology is a bad proposition. Plus, if you have interesting viewpoints on indifference or competition (for resources let’s say) I would like to and think it’s productive to talk openly about them.

@IntuitMachine @ESYudkowsky @ATabarrok Indifference being, when we pave a road, how much consideration do we have for a thriving ant colony that has tens of thousands of members in their colony? Literally zero. Likewise I believe it is ~ possible ~ for humanity to become that ant colony.

@IntuitMachine @ESYudkowsky @ATabarrok Because they aren’t in the way, they don’t compete for resources and they were driven nearly to the brink of extinction until laws were passed and preservations were established. Also the difference between aboriginal & (insert race) is a really poor comparison of human to ai.

@giannipov @Havoc_Six @WarMonitors What does the US confidence in Ukraine have to do with any of it? The reality is we spent 3T in the Middle East killing thousands of US soldiers to fight cave dwellers. Spending a couple hundred billion to protect a sovereign nation and frustrate a known adversary.Simply worth it

@Godel_number @RokoMijic @JPlatzHalter Just because we can reach the pedals of Ai does not mean we should drive the car. I can never understand what the huge rush is to open the floodgates now compared to a year or so down the line when we can (potentially) understand the system and it’s operation far better.

@Godel_number @RokoMijic @JPlatzHalter I fail to see how this has any bearing on the problem whatsoever. What is the rush? A 10 year old can get to the mall to hangout with his friends if we let him drive the family car, yet we wait until they develop a level of competency to let them operate the vehicle.

People are just so aggressively stupid about AI risk. It's not actually that hard a problem to decide what to do: - AI could now plausibly kill everyone in the near future - Benefits from AI are useless if we are all dead + attack has an advantage over defense so risks dominate benefits - plus, we can take a few years to more clearly understand the risks before we lurch forward Hence we should definitely pause AI development and roll back hardware now. Despite this being a very simple argument, people refuse to get it (and they all have mutually contradictory reasons)

@BrahmaBull90 @sentdefender Russian and Chinese psyops teams been doing a number on here since 2017. If their military capability was half as effective as their ability to dictate (and deride) American discourse we’d all be speaking Russian or Mandarin by the end of the year. (Luckily it’s not)

What conventional weapons can Putin utilize to “wipe Ukraine off the map”?
