In this special edition of the SMC discourse series, Media broadcast veteran Mrs. Bimbo Oloyede (@BimboLoyede) shares from her wealth of experience of over 50 years of practice in the Nigerian media industry. She broaches a variety of topics ranging from gender bias in media practice to juggling motherhood alongside a career in the broadcast industry, to censorship in the media industry, amongst other topics. She also talked about an initiative that she birthed and which she is very passionate about. LIFE LINE ADVOCACY and DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE is a project that focuses on raising funds to support cancer research with the hope that, over time, knowledge will be gained about how to better deal with this malignant pandemic. The beginning of my journey at OrangeVFX was challenging because I had to quickly get used to the workspace and culture. A significant part of the process was training and hands-on practice. I also had to learn 2D character preparation for layout and animation. It was a lot for me at the time, because I had to adapt to different art styles while also making sure they aligned with the brand's specific identity. It felt overwhelming at first, but the foundational knowledge I gained from school, @smcpau, helped me thrive while I was also building new ones. I’d say my level of accountability and efficiency in tracking tasks and ensuring timely delivery has really improved. I have gradually gotten better at balancing speed with quality and adjusting where necessary. Some days are intense, while others are more relaxed.
