@juneslater17 Been happening to women for years. Didn’t need immigration- or ‘foreign men’ to make it happen - just men, but it has brought it to the attention of racists seeking to exploit matters.

I see a lot of posts about young white women feeling unsafe in bigger cities especially London. Being stared inappropriately at on the tube or the DLR, even sat next to when there's lots of space elsewhere . I asked a young friend who goes to London a lot . She says it's definitely real. She says it's foreign men, sometimes they mutter in foreign languages, or try to use their phones to take unsolicited photos She said she now never wears a skirt until she's got to get destination, often wears a hoodie to cover her long blond hair. She strikes up conversation with other women, complete strangers , who are willing to listen as they've had the same issues themselves. I wondered if it is a thing?

But what truly shocked me was when she revealed that she hadn’t even notified the family of his passing. I asked how they would react when they eventually found out, and after a brief pause, she firmly said: "If they didn’t care enough to see or speak to him while he was here, I refuse to let them see or speak about him now that he’s gone." She explained that her husband was an excellent cook and always invited them to dinner. But the response was always the same: "I’m busy," or worse, complete silence. Holidays, birthdays, anniversaries… always ignored. After much prayer, she made a bold decision: she sold their home and belongings, moved to a small apartment in the city, and started anew. Then, she looked me in the eyes and said something I will never forget: "Darling, when you realize you are no longer important to someone – even family – you have to make yourself the most important thing." At that moment, my heart broke, but I also realized I had just met the most courageous person I have ever known.
