This post resonates so much rn. After a year or so off from education. Stepping back into the classroom - I’m so conscious of the privilege it is to work with young people. Those 💡moments are the best!

"That kind of community doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when school leaders are intentional about inviting others in, sharing ownership, and building a culture rooted in respect and belonging." Dr. Rachel Edoho-Eket, #ForwardTogether Forever Their Teacher - mailchi.mp/georgecouros/f…

Math. A mathematician emerges from a cave, hands you the the slip of paper below, and says "Is it true that a dart thrown at the real number line would never hit a rational number?" What is your response?

@jshmtn For me yeah… I’d do log base root 7 of both sides first. Then you get root(24-root(x))=4 🫶👍

Do you know why a negative divided by a positive equals a negative? If not, find out in 30 seconds.

As far back as the 1890s William James cautioned against thinking you can apply the principles of psychology straight into the classroom. However, without an understanding of how the brain learns, planning instruction is suboptimal. I think these two positions encapsulate the interstitial point in which we find ourselves.

Absolutely love this blog post.. I think #1 is so common amongst Maths teachers as so much teaching of Maths used to be mimicking and not thinking! You’re so right that we tend to see all the shiny stuff on social media. Thank you for sharing @robertkaplinsky

A big problem in education is that teachers keep their insecurities to themselves for fear of being judged. I wish it wasn't that way. So, I wrote a list of my 10 biggest educator insecurities and hope it'll make it easier to talk about. robertkaplinsky.com/ten-things-im-… #iteachmath

@NCTM Start by asking for a definitely wrong answer. Kids love coming up with nonsense answers and it sometimes helps with buy-in to the actual problem. Kids who struggle in math are so used to getting wrong answers sometimes starting with this helps them relax.
