@yaozhang02 On the questionnaire, respondents self-report their ethnic/cultural origins. Statistics Canada does not assign or change responses. People may select from examples or choose “Other” to enter their own origin. Responses are published as provided and reflect self-identification.

You didn't really answer the question, Taiwanese and Hongkongers who didn't identify themselves as Chinese, should not be counted as Chinese, instead, should be counted as the ethnic group they chose(Taiwanese/Hongkongers). Because that means they DO NOT identify themselves as Chinese.
